Early Life and Education
Simon Ssekankya was born on 2nd July 1972, in Uganda.
He went to Kiyoola Church of Uganda primary school for his Primary Leaving Examinations.
Career and Professional Work Experience
In 2004, Simon, who had a fairly successful banking career, made the decision to leave the banking sector and launch a construction company.
He had the bold idea to establish the region’s first and biggest one-stop building and construction hardware store and he went ahead to pursue it by starting small.
Today, Hardware World runs shops in a number of cities with the constant goal of outperforming its clients, no matter how big or small. With a reputation for being the go-to location for all hardware needs, thousands of products from many different categories are given each week to its devoted, trusting clients by reliable local and international brands.
Additionally, Hardware World runs a Ready Mix Concrete Plant, a Stone Quarry, a Fleet of Heavy Transport Trucks, and a Concrete Products Factory.
On this journey, Hardware World has partnered with several national and international brands, bringing its slogan: “Build your world with Hardware World” to life.
Alongside being the Managing Director of Hardware World in Ntinda and Kalagi, Simon Ssekankya is also the Sponsorship and Marketing Director of Vipers Sports Club.
He is also Kitintale’s Hardware World Mall Managing Director and Proprietor of LifeLink Hospital along with Dr. Zam Nalule and Ronald Bisereko.
He was appointed as the Director at the East African Community Events Ltd on 12 February 2018 and he resigned on 1 March 2018.
Achievements and Awards
The hardware industry in Uganda and East Africa has been revolutionized by Hardware World’s focus on innovation, inspiration, and unmatched service.
Ssekankya is also the chairman of the management committee of Kiyoola Church of Uganda Primary School. He raised Shs 3m during fundraising to support the school.
In accordance with the Uganda Retirement Benefits Regulatory Authority Act of 2011, the sponsors named qualified trustees including Mr. Simon Ssekankya, together with Dr. Gudula Naiga Basaza (chairperson), Dr. Agnes Apea Atim, Hon. Apollo Makubuya, and Mr. Everest Kayondo to oversee the management of the scheme under the close supervision of the URBRA.
In 2019, the City Tyres offices, which are situated in the Sixth Street Industrial Area, hosted the second draw of the Pirelli promotion. Simon Ssekankya was one of the two lucky recipients who received an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2019 Formula One championship race in Abu Dhabi.
Ssekankya showed his joy after receiving the good news over the phone. “I’m overjoyed to be one of the lucky winners because I’ve always wanted to see the event live and am overjoyed about the good news,” Ssekankya said.
Simon Ssenkaayi has greatly contributed to national development through the empowerment of ordinary people to better their best and up their game in order to match the fast-changing world through creeds such as “The Power of Self,” “Awaken the Giant in You,” and “Turning Past into Opportunity.”
