For a more consistent user experience, Google wants to incorporate the most popular Google Workspace productivity apps inside the Gmail app. This action will eliminate the requirement to maintain many tabs open for various operations. Direct communication, brief group chats, and more formal group chats called Spaces are all possible with Google Chat.

You don’t need to keep a separate Chat tab open to use all these capabilities; they are all accessible from within Gmail.

Google Chat has been made available through the Gmail app for Android and iOS. It isn’t, however, activated by default. The functionality must first be enabled if you wish to use it.

On your browser, click on Settings and then select the Chat and Meet option to enable Google Chat in Gmail. After choosing Google Chat, click Save Changes.

On a mobile device, click on Settings, choose your work or school account, and then turn on the Chat toggle. This will allow Google Chat in Gmail.

Two additional tabs for chats and spaces will appear at the bottom of the screen on mobile devices after Chat has been activated.

On the web, chats, and spaces are located in the left side panel; however, if you would like a larger window, pick the right side of the inbox under Settings > Chat and Meet.

Conclusion

By sticking to the Gmail app, you can now save time and maintain your productivity through enabling Google Chat. Everything you need to do to activate the Google Chat functionality has been discussed in this article.
