Controversies

In July 2019, Hon. Susan Amero was appointed to the People Power leadership’s coordination team, to lead the Teso People Power team ahead of the 2021 elections which were prepared and presented to the public in Magerere, Gayaza, and Wakiso districts without her knowledge despite being an NRM member to which she declined.
Amero added that she could not be the coordinator of a protest group whose initiatives she is unaware of and that she had not been educated on the true goals of People Power.
“I was away, and I first learned about my appointment on social media. If one becomes a coordinator, one is supposed to move as a team. I have not consulted my people. Second, I have not consulted my people about whether I should leave the NRM or not, because I am the NRM’s flag bearer in Amuria, and I cannot make such a decision without first listening to the views of my people,” she explained.
Amero went on to say that her disagreements with the NRM party arise when they bring up issues that do not benefit her people but regardless she was still an NRM cadre.
In November 2021, around 9.30 a.m. a Mercedes Benz belonging to Amero caused a false bomb scare at parliament when it collapsed back into a standing position with a loud bang.
This happened three days after a terror attack on Parliament Avenue (IPS Building) and another at the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala that killed seven people and injured 37 others.
The loud bang sent workers in the parliament parking lot and building fleeing for their lives. One member of the parliamentary staff rushed for a fire extinguisher and ran towards the car, only to discover that no fire had accompanied the loud sound.
Within two minutes, two police sniffer dogs were brought in to search before she arrived to explain the situation.
Amero claims she simply raised the car while driving through the potholes and forgot to return it to its normal standing position. According to Amero, if the car is not moving and has been packed for a few minutes, it automatically pulls back down.
