Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has urged Ugandans to come out in big numbers and vote to put a close to the NRM regime.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) party presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has urged Ugandans to come out in big numbers and vote to put a close to the NRM regime.

Kyagulanyi made the remarks while appearing on NBS TV’s Morning Breeze programme on Monday. He said that Museveni’s regime as president has been coupled with so many undoings but the time has come for Ugandans to decide a new leader who will take them forward.

“Museveni’s regime is treating this election as a military operation. We are asking the people of Uganda to step in so that we can overwhelm the dictator. We are a mass. We have been calling people to come out and massively vote. This is a life-changing election,” he said.

“The problem we have today is that an individual has usurped the powers of all the institutions. The priority is not to better the lives of our people. The ideas are put on the table. Figures are being thrown around but don’t translate into real life.”

Kyagulanyi also said that in recent years the NRM government has prioritised borrowing of funds from outside countries but all the money has been misused and diverted into personal gains.

Kyagulanyi noted that there are so many maternal deaths in addition to other burning health issues but the current government is always focused on buying bullets and tear gas to aim at citizens.

“The people in uniform, their wives die while giving birth, they live in “Mama yingiya pole”, the promotions are selective, it is only a few bosses that are connected to the president. You are being used by an old tyrant. Serve the nation but not the dictatorship,” Kyagulanyi added.

“We have borrowed and borrowed. But again, what has the money done? You only see more teargas, more bullets and more patrol cars. We don’t want numbers (GDP) we want the lives of our people improved.”

Bobi Wine is not ‘gay affiliated’

He further, lashed out at President Museveni for referring to him as a ‘gay associate’. On this, Kyagulanyi said that the sexual talk is aimed at diverting Ugandans from their struggle for freedom.

“I feel insulted to be drawn into a sexual talk hours to the elections. I’m married to a woman. I find the sexual talk very diversionary,” the NUP leader stressed.

Meanwhile, he remained his supporters to come out in big numbers and vote for him come Thursday. Relatively, he urged them to download the UVote app to be in a position to monitor the tallying of the results.

Earlier, the EC chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama stressed that it is only the Commission mandated to tally and announce outcomes from the elections. However, Bobi Wine cited that the UVote App was created to ensure that Ugandans have access to accurate results and eliminate any form of rigging.

Kyagulanyi who cited the ongoing campaigns as a proof said that they have reached a time when they can hardly trust the EC to do their role without any supervision from the public.

“We are using the UVote App to bring us together across the country. We are not looking at EC for answers, but we are looking at the people of Uganda. UVote App is to ensure that we have accurate results. The NRM said they, will have their tally centre, and the EC hasn’t come out to say anything about it,” he noted.

It is the duty of the Electoral Commission (EC) to announce the results, it is also the role of EC to hold free and fair elections, but you have seen they have been silent. The campaign period has precisely been a war zone and continues to be. The electoral process was taken over by the military. There has never been so much murder. My entire campaign team is in prison. We, however, thank God we are here.”
