Uganda total cases rise to 253 as 31 people test positive for Covid-19 from 1,116 samples tested.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) Tuesday confirmed 31 new COVID-19 cases from 1,116 samples tested bringing the total number of cases in Uganda to 253.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, 23 of the new cases were from the points of entry while the remaining eight cases were contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers.
The Ministry says they carried out a total of 1,116 samples countrywide yesterday. Out of these, a total of 896 samples were taken from the border points of entry while 220 samples were taken from within the community.
“Today, 26 May 2020, 31 new COVID-19 cases confirmed. 23 new cases are from the Points of Entry while 8 new cases are contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers. The contacts were under quarantine at the time of the test.
“Total samples tested today were 1,116. Samples from Points of Entry tested were 896 and samples from the community and contacts were 220,” a statement from the Ministry read.
The new figure now means that Uganda has a total of 253 COVID-19 confirmed cases with no single death yet to be recorded and so far 69 people have been discharged after they recovered from the virus.
Meanwhile, the MOH says that 20 positive foreign truck drivers including 16 Tanzanians and four Kenyans were handed over to their country of origin bringing the total number of those that have since been deported to about 261.

Mass infections
Ever since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, Uganda is among the few countries globally that have registered fewer cases.
However, from the look of things, this might be short-lived as the country continues to record double-digit cases at least every single day.
Yesterday, Uganda registered 31 cases – their highest number confirmed in a single day and evidence is clear that if the country continues to record such big figures daily then they are set for mass infections.
The MOH on Sunday, May 17, said that the country had about 161 admitted COVID-19 patients in 10 regional referral hospitals countrywide but now days have passed and the country has confirmed close to 60 new cases in that time-space so the figures must be a lot more than that.
Of Uganda’s case tally, the biggest percentage has come from truckers via the entry points and only a few cases have come from the contacts and the community.
And now that the private cars and some businesses were allowed to resume operations from yesterday, May 26, Uganda will be looking to see that this does not lay a foundation for even more virus infections more so among its community members.
