Gen Kayihura set for prison exit after President Museveni Monday accepted to take into action the people’s plea to pardon him.
The former Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura might be set for prison exit after President Museveni Monday accepted to take into action the people’s plea to pardon him.
Following 13 years of service as a police chief, Kayihura was sacked in April 2018 after President Museveni cited that his tenure had been infiltrated by criminals he termed as Kawukumi, a ligands word to refer to bean weevils.
Kayihura has since faced court charges on cases among others failed to protect war material by issuing arms to unauthorised persons including Boda Boda 2010 members led by convict Abdallah Kitatta between 2010 and 2018.
The former police head is also accused of aiding and abetting the kidnapping, repatriating Rwandan exiles and refugees and Ugandan citizens to Rwanda between 2012 and 2016.
However, while meeting NRM party leaders in Kisoro on Monday, Museveni was put to task to respond to issues concerning Kayihura’s arrest.
The Kisoro district leaders from the ruling party led by the LC5 chairperson, Abel Bizimana begged the president to pardon and set free the former IGP claiming that he has done a lot in mobilizing for the party more so in their district.
“You are the most merciful president we have ever heard and you have forgiven many people. We beg you forgive Gen.Kayihura for anything he may have wronged you,” Bizimana who was joined by a couple of other leaders knelt before the President and raised their plea.

In response, Museveni assured that he will personally follow up on Kayihura’s issues and raise them before the General Court Martial to see what they can do with the charges against him.
“You have told me that Kale Kayihura is a good mobiliser in this area and has done a lot for the party and that you want him pardoned. Since you have asked me to pardon him like I have always done to other people, I will talk to the military prosecution to see what to do with the charges. I will personally follow it up.”
“Since the leaders of Kisoro sitting here have asked me to pardon that great NRM mobiliser, I will personally put the request to the military prosecution,” Museveni gave hope to his voters in Kisoro.
