The National Unity Platform party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has assured Ugandans that they have not yet given up on their next plan in response to the recently concluded presidential elections.
Last week, Museveni was re-elected for a sixth term as president amidst fraud allegations. The electoral commission said declared the incumbent as the victor with 58.64% of the vote, beating second-placed Bobi Wine on 34.83% votes.
The EC also noted that the turnout was relatively low citing that less than 10 million people of the country’s 18 million eligible voted on January 14.
However, while addressing the nation on Friday via Facebook live, Kyagulanyi said that the Commission downplayed the numbers of people who voted to try to hide the fact that the results were just formulated.
He said that evidence is clear that this year’s selection unlike the previous ones, many Ugandans were desperate for change and they turned up in unprecedented numbers to vote but statistics from EC don’t justify it.
”Today I stand here to thank you, fellow Ugandans, for turning up in unprecedented numbers to vote. Mr Byabakama and his Electoral Commission are trying to downplay the numbers of the people who voted, but even the blind could see the overwhelming turn up of Ugandans on the 14th. So on behalf of the National Unity Platform and my behalf, I want to thank you for turning up and for voting for change,” Kyagulanyi said before assuring Ugandans that he is determined to prove to them that their effort was not in vain.
Backing up his statement, the people power initiator pinpointed that they have already rejected the outcomes of the elections as a result begged all Ugandans to do the same.
Kyagulanyi who remains adamant that he won the January 14th polls called on all his supporters from all angles using non-violent but legal means to protest against the election outcomes.
”We have always said that People Power is Our power. The stolen votes belong to the People of Uganda. The people of Uganda must rise to the occasion and free themselves and their country from that small group of gunmen who do not care about our future and that of our country Uganda,” he urged.
”Unlike Museveni who unleashed untold violence and suffering on our people in the 1980s, we choose non-violent strategies in the pursuit of freedom and democracy. We are committed to non-violence because we despise violence. That is why we are fighting against a violent tyrant. Studies have shown that non-violence is even much more effective in breaking violent dictatorships.”
Also, he said that many Ugandans are desperate to hear from them on what they hope to do to challenge the outcomes of the recently concluded elections.

Kyagulanyi however, made it clear that they have received various proposals from many Ugandans including proceeding to the Supreme Court but they will soon announce their next plan to the public.
”From the 17th of January when the coup was announced, we have received numerous calls advising us on different strategies and we’re we are grateful,” he added.
”The leadership of the National Unity Platform is in the process of consulting stakeholders but most importantly the common people and in a few days, we shall communicate our decision to the nation.”
