Nubian Li and Bobi Wine’s personal bodyguard Eddie Mutwe and 34 others were denied a bail application for fear that they might turn violent.

Ali Bukeni commonly known as Nubian Li and Bobi Wine’s personal bodyguard Eddy Ssebufu alias Eddie Mutwe in addition to 34 others were denied a bail application for fear that they might turn violent.

The General Court Martial in Makindye on Monday ordered over 34 National Unity Platform party supporters to be kept under detention further for fear that they might pose security threats.

Earlier on, the group wrote to the court seeking to be released on bail basing on the fact that it is their constitutional right and many of their colleagues have sustained injuries and developed illness while in prison.

The court, however, following a Monday sitting said no to the request arguing that the group is ready to continue acting violently the same way it has been towards the police officers while in detention.

“This court finds that if released on bail, the accused will continue acts of violence. Bail is therefore denied,” Gutti stressed on Monday before requesting the prosecution to expedite the investigations into the matter for the trials to commence.

Last week, in a court sitting chaired by Capt Ambrose Guma, the ruling was similar. Capt Ambrose said that they could not release the group because they will incite the general public to stage protests.

“The group was recently involved in violent protests and on arrest; they became violent towards police officers. They are therefore likely to incite protests if granted bail,” army prosecutor, Capt Ambrose Guma said last week.

Meanwhile, the group was arrested in December last year in Kalangala district while on Kyagulanyi’s campaign trial.

In addition to engaging in activities that are likely to culminate into the further spread of the COVID-19, the group was also charged with having fighting weapons including guns.
