FUFA AWARDS; Airtel Joins FUFA To Reward Top Football Players In The Country

For the 3rd year in a row, Airtel is sponsoring the FUFA awards with a Shs. 100m sponsorship deal. The Airtel FUFA awards were launched on Thursday atvtbe Kampala Serena hotel and will take place on 1st December at Speke resort Munyonyo. The event was attended by officials from both Airte, FUFA and other companies that joined Airtel to sponsor the awards like NIC, Round Bob, Ecobank among others.

Addressing the media, Remmy Kisakye the Airtel brand and communications manager expressed gratitude and vowed to keep supporting local talent right from the grass roots.

‘For three years now, we are glad to be associated with the Airtel FUFA Awards. We vow to continue supporting football right from the grassroot.

“I would like to commend the platform that is offering this opportunity. When you look at the category of the ladies, these are players that have come through the grassroots and put in a lot of effort,” she stated.

FUFA executive committee member Rogers Byamukama represented FUFA president Eng. Moses Magogo. He is quoted saying, FUFA is glad that the awards are back and better.

As the federation, we eye rewarding talent and appreciating the best.

This is a time to celebrate and reward the players as well as coaches than anybody else.

The awards are grouped into 11 categories which are; male Airtel FUFA award, female Airtel FUFA award, best FUFA 11, FUFA coach of the year, beach soccer player of the year, FUFA presidential award, FUFA fairplay award, FUFA Upcoming talent,FUFA referee award, and fan’s player of the year award (Uganda and foreign).

The MVP and female player of the year are to be chosen by the fans via SMS. Whoever wins these categories will drive home in a brand new car and a fully paid $5000 trip to Dubai and Mombasa respectively.

Reigning UPL footballer of the year Geoffrey Serunkuma who was top scorer with KCCA as they won a league and cup double is favourite to win the male award. Now playing with Buildcon in Zambia, he tassles it out with former teammate Muzamiru Mutyaba and Lwanga of Vipers.

Last year’s female player of the year, Kawempe Muslim and Crested Cranes striker Hasifah Nassuna isis favourite to win the female player of the year award. She is joined on this list by Olila High School’s Vanessa Karungi and Fazila Ikwaput who also plays for the national team.
