Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana announced his decision this week to run for the presidency of FUFA.

The Makindye West Member of Parliament, Allan Ssewanyana has officially announced his decision to stand for the presidency of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).

Magogo was unopposed in the 2013 and 2017 elections and his tenure will expire on August 31, 2021.

With football ready to decide its new administration leader in the coming months, Ssewanyana has assured that he is the right man to put an end to all ongoing injustices in the football fraternity.

Ssewanyana made the remarks during a press conference on Monday. He said the incumbent Magogo has not only ruined the Federation but the country’s football development at large.

He said his tenure will not only make football in Uganda admirable but also create a favourable working environment for players, investors, coaches, sponsors, media and supporters.

“I am presenting myself as a candidate for the position of FUFA President at the next general Assembly. We must make football enjoyable for every stakeholders,” Ssewanyana said adding that Magogo’s tenure has been marred with corruption.

“He ( Magogo) is a convict under the FIFA code of ethics statutes and served both sentences. His tenure prior to the conviction was marred with corruption.”

Ssewanyana who is also the shadow minister for Sports in Parliament also, said that Magogo should do his service and step aside from FUFA duties and allow commencement of investigations on cases imposed on him.

“Magogo is not transparent and laws are only made to close out any possible challengers to presidency. He should step aside at the end of his tenure as he is still under investigation,” Ssewanyana added.

Ssewanyana’s announcement, however, comes at a time when both current and retired national team players have since come out to criticize Magogo’s recent claims on questions concerning player salaries.

A video of the FUFA president last week made rounds on different social media platforms of him telling players who participated in the just concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament in Cameroon that their performance does not qualify them for any payments.

The statement has since left several people in the football fraternity aiming to dig at the Federation president for publicly criticising the players.

Many have also been overheard accusing Magogo of using it as an excuse to try and channel the player’s salaries into personal matters.
