Paul Ssemogerere is the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese Uganda, in the Roman Catholic Church.
He was appointed by Pope Francis on 9th December 2022 as the next Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese and then on 25th Jan 2022, Ssemwogerere was consecrated at Rubaga Cathedral to serve as the Archbishop of Kampala.
However, before his appointment to serve as the Archbishop, he served as the Apostolic Administrator of the Kampala Archdiocese appointed by Pope Francis soon after the sudden death of then Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, on April 8 2021.
Previously he served as the Bishop of Kasana Luwero (2008-2021) before his appointment to serve as the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese.
Paul Ssemogerere was ordained to serve as a priest in the Catholic Church on 3rd June 1983 at Kampala, by Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala Nsubuga, the then Archbishop of Kampala till 4th June 2008, when he got ordained as the Bishop of Kasana Luweero.
On 23 August 2008, Ssemogerere was consecrated to serve as a Bishop of Kasana Luweero by Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.
Before his priesthood, Ssemogerere on 21 November 1981 got ordained to serve as a Deacon by Archbishop Rembert George Weakland, the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
Early Life and Education
Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere was born in present-day Wakiso District, Central Uganda, Kisubi on 30 June 1956.
Ssemogerere went to Kigero Primary School, Kisubi Boys Primary Schools and then later joined St Maria Goretti Senior Secondary School Katende for his Senior Four certificate.
In 1976, Ssemogerere together with other men joined St Mbaaga Seminary at Ggaba. They were the pioneers of the school, the first class in this seminary.
Then in the late1978, the late Cardinal Emmanuel Kiwanuka Nsubuga sent Ssemogerere to the United States of America (USA) to study Master of Divinity at the Saint Francis de Sales Seminary, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, graduating in 1982.
