Hon. Dr Charles Ayume is a politician who currently represents Koboko Municipality in parliament in Uganda. He was elected to the Ugandan Parliament on the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) platform in May 2021.
Charles Ayume is also a doctor. He earned his medical degree in 2004 and serves as the head of the health committee in the Ugandan parliament.
Personal life
Born on March 5th,1985. The Kakwa tribe, to which Charles Ayume belongs to, is one in which his parents have a deep historical connection. Koboko District is the place of birth of his late father, Francis Joash Ayume.
Early life and Education
Charles Ayume completed his high school studies in the Wakiso District, where he also earned his UCE and UACE education certificates.
He then received a bachelor’s degree of Medicine and Surgery from Makerere University. He studied medicine and became licensed to practice in 2004, the same year his father passed away.
His late father, Francis Joash Ayume, was an attorney, politician, and member of the Ugandan Parliament who represented the Koboko Municipality.
He served as the Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament from 1998 to 2001 and as Attorney General from 2001 to 2004, up until he was killed in a car accident along Gulu- the Kampala highway.
Political Career

Charles Ayume joined politics in 2020, running against Minister Hon. Anite Evelyn for the NRM card in the NRM primaries.
During the primary election campaign, Ayume’s supporters and the police clashed after the police attempted to stop Ayume’s campaign rally in the enforcement of COVID-19 guidelines. His supporters accused the police of bias in favour of his opponent.
Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu had informed the Koboko population that after analyzing Dr. Ayume, he believed that he was a decent man who merited support despite him running on the NRM card as opposed to NUP.
Kyagulanyi remarked, “I have studied and watched Dr Charles Ayume so much. I tell the people of Koboko to vote for him.”
In the primary election, Charles Ayume won with 8089 more than Evelyn Anite who received 7321 votes.
He was elected to serve as the Member of Parliament for Koboko Municipality on January 14, 2021, at the general presidential and parliamentary elections and sworn in on May 17, 2021.

According to published reports, Charles Ayume has a net worth of 600 million Ugandan shillings, and his income is expected to reach more than 350 million Ugandan shillings in 2022.
