Edward Rodgers Ssebuufu aka Eddie Mutwe is one of the few bodyguards that make up the security details of a presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.
Mutwe a Ugandan is a bearded brown man whose size and muscular body outstands the rest of Kyagulanyi’s minders.
Ssebuufu aged 39 attained his codename Mutwe some time back. VJ Mark a movie translator started it all, whenever he landed on characters that he thought resembled Ssebuufu during work, he could say ‘look at the head, he looks like Eddie’.
After some time, VJ Mark started to join the words, saying Eddie Mutwe, so that is how Ssebuufu came to be called Eddie Mutwe.
Early Life and Education
Eddie Mutwe aged 39 is a city born. He grew up with his grandfather, Charles Senabulya in the suburbs of Kisenyi, a Kampala City suburb. Mutwe’s grandfather took care of him with the meagre resources he had.
He’s very much known in the areas of Kisenyi Kafumbe Mukasa road.
Mutwe narrates the challenges were very many in Kisenyi and that life was hard for people who were not sharp. He’s born to Jane Nantumbwe and he’s the only boy in a family of five.
Mutwe Meets Bobi Wine
Eddie Mutwe met Bobi Wine almost 25 years ago while in school and the two have moved together since.
“We were enjoying our youthful days. Making chaos at events in school and from there he (Bobi Wine) became my friend,” Mutwe noted.
Currently, Mutwe is responsible for guiding on security precautions among others in Kyagulanyi’s camp. However, he claims that he is not paid anything to do this kind of work.
Mutwe says Bobi Wine is his friend and likewise. For this reason, he says there’s no need to pay him because it’s his responsibility to protect his friend.
He said he has managed to safely guard Bobi Wine for all these years because he has been training in taekwondo and boxing ever since his childhood.
Mutwe says he’s grateful for Bobi Wine because he was the first person to put him on a plane, “he paid for my trip and we went abroad.” among many other things.
His mother said that she gave up trying to persuade him to give up on being a bodyguard and has since decided to commit him to God.
According to Mutwe guarding Bobi Wine is the hardest task ever in his life, because it does come with lots of consequences.
“Some strikes that happen in the city; the police come here thinking I am the ring leader. They forget that this is a job and it is different from the other,” he said. And one of his most challenging days on the job was the 2018 Arua riots.
“We almost died in Arua. Everyone who was there will tell you that this is a day they won’t forget.”

Other Responsibilities
Eddie Mutwe is a barber, if he is not guarding Kyagulanyi, Mutwe is at his salon at Park View building in Kampala City.
Family
Eddie Mutwe is married to a lawyer whom he prefers to keep out of the public. The two have three children.
Charged with treason
Edward Rogers Ssebuufu alias Eddie Mutwe was charged with treason before Gulu Magistrate Court, concerning stoning the presidential Motor Vehicle during Arua Municipality by-election along with others including Hon Robert Kyagulanyi.
Eddie Mutwe alongside other suspects were remanded recently until the 19 January 2021 when they will re-appear for mention of the case, this was after they appeared before the General Court Martial chaired by Lt Gen Gutti.
The prosecution stated that the 49 suspects and others still at large on January 3, at Makerere Kavule Kigundu zone, were found in possession of four rounds of ammunition which is a monopoly of the Uganda Defense Forces (UPDF).
