FDC lawyers ready to file a suit against President Museveni after collecting 1.3m signatures
The people’s Government led by Rt Col Dr Kizza Besigye says they have raised the required signatures and FDC lawyers are currently in The Hague to file a lawsuit against President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
This was revealed by Betty Nambooze, the People’s Government spokesperson yesterday 10th, February 2019 in Kampala. Nambooze said that their lawyers are in The Hague ready to file a petition at the ICC in the move to indict President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for alleged crimes against humanity.
Nambooze says the first group of lawyers led by Council Fred Elly Mukasa arrived in The Hague last week to coordinate with International Lawyers to workout preliminary procedures for filing the petition.
“This process of receiving signatures of Ugandans in support of the petition, will, however, continue if when we pursue the case at The Hague. This is to allow all victims to join the petition,” Nambooze said.

The process of collecting signatures seeking to indict Museveni and a numbery of government officials for alleged crimes against humanity began in November last year led by the self-proclaimed People’s Government.
The group has since been collecting signatures but according to Nambooze the process of collecting signatures to support the petition has received intense resistance and intimidation from security operatives.

Nambooze says that they have so far collected more than 1m signatures around the country and more are still coming in.
“We have 1.3m, (signatures) we have another 1m on the table and we are receiving more returns from various districts and true to our theme this year that ours is now double action. We expect that we shall have about 4m petitioners,” Nambooze noted.

Deputy Government spokesperson, Col Shaban Bantarinza responding to Nambooze’s remarks on the matter said that People’s Government does not exist in this country and for that reason, he cannot speak anything about it.
“People’s Government does not exist, I don’t know any other government apart from the one I speak for,” Bantarinza said.
