Gashumba has told those in NRM that it is high time they looked into making Jacob Oulanyah the next speaker of Parliament.
Uganda’s motivational speaker and social activist, Frank Gashumba has told those in the ruling NRM party that it is high time they looked into making Jacob Oulanyah the next speaker of Parliament.
Jacob Oulanyah is the current deputy speaker of Parliament however like ever before, he is vying for the speakership position in the 11th Parliament.
According to Gashumba, this is the best time the ruling party should think about the deputy speaker taking the top seat because he has been vital in NRM’s success in the northern region.
Gashumba who made the remarks through a statement via his social media handle said that he has heard many colleagues in the ruling party claim that Oulanyah is not fit for the top position because he hails from the northern region of Uganda.
“The race for Speakership is on! And with a lot of hate, ignorance and naivety, people are attacking the current deputy speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah because he hails from the North; many claiming that he doesn’t qualify to be the next Speaker of Parliament,” Gashumba said.
“First of all, it’s public knowledge that General Museveni rewards politicians according to their electorate. According to the Electoral Commission, the entire Northern region was won by the NRM and the person who coordinated that massive win was Jacob Oulanyah.”

The social activist, also, said that the issue of tribalism is still a main challenge in the country. Gashumba noted with concern that Uganda would be at peace if all regions had an equal share of positions.
“Unless it’s out of hate, why would someone make noise because of two men (Owiny-Dollo & Oulanyah) from the entire Northern region! If we want to live in a peaceful Uganda, let all regions have the same share from the national cake”
