Juliet Kakayi Nsubuga is a Ugandan sales and marketing professional with over 20 years of experience, more than sixteen of which she has spent with MTN Uganda.

Early Life and Education

Juliet Kakayi Nsubuga was born in the Ugandan region of Mbale to a large and joyful family of nine children.
She grew up in a Godly family, and her father frequently welcomed Reverends at their home. In his last years, he purchased land and built St James Church of Uganda.
Her mother is a diligent worker who trained her children to study, work hard, and be self-sufficient.
Mrs Nsubuga is a devoted spouse to Mr Henry Nsubuga and a mother of three children. She enjoys spending time with her family, travelling, and going to youth outreaches through her church community.
Juliet attended Fair Primary School for her primary education. She then attended Nabumali high school for her O’levels and Namasagali College for her A’level studies.
She then attended Makerere University Business School (MUBS) and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
She also has a Master’s degree in Economic Policy and Planning, which she obtained from Makerere University’s FACULTY OF ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT (FEMA) between 2010 and 2011.
Juliet is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) in the United Kingdom and a passionate supporter of community development.
She is an MTN Academy leadership and development programme graduate.
She has additionally taken several notable managerial and leadership courses, including the Gordon Institute of Business Science’s (GIBS-University of Pretoria) “Future Leadership Investment Growing High Potential Talent” (FLIGHT) curriculum.
Career and Professional Work Experience
Juliet Kakayi Nsubuga began her career in Sales and Marketing in various managerial and senior positions for Global and Multinational organisations in the Petroleum, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), and Telecommunication industries before joining MTN Uganda.
Juliet worked as the Customer Care Coordinator at VIVO ENERGY (a Shell licensee in Africa) from 1998 to 1999.
She then moved on to work as the Customer Manager at East African Breweries Ltd from 1999 to 2004.
On joining MTN Uganda, Juliet served as the Manager of Business Markets of MTN Uganda’s Enterprise Business segment from January 2008 until July 2009.
From August 2009 to May 2013, she worked as the MTN Uganda Manager of Government and Public Sector for the Enterprise Business Unit.
Juliet worked as the Senior Manager of Enterprise Sales in Uganda from June 2013 to May 2016. She was in charge of the Business/Enterprise Segment’s overall productivity and effectiveness.
She collaborated extensively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the proper objectives and priorities were enabled within MTN Uganda’s Business/Enterprise Segment.
From 2015 to 2018, Juliet Kakayi held positions at MTN Uganda, including Ag. General Manager Sales & Distribution and Senior Manager Consumer Sales Planning & Operations. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in driving digital distribution, resulting in a transition from 20% to 99% digital distribution, eliminating physical cards for airtime and sim cards.
Additionally, she led and coordinated a field sales force, achieving both direct and indirect sales targets. Juliet also crafted innovative value propositions and business solutions for customers as part of her strategic responsibilities.
She has been the General Manager of Wholesale and Carrier Services at MTN Uganda since January 2019.
Nsubuga oversees telecom-to-telecom partnerships, which enable MTN customers to have a fantastic service experience when roaming outside of the country and when calling other networks locally, as well as handling infrastructure services for other telecom carriers.
Her responsibility is to ensure that the infrastructure is sound, the service is excellent, and the channels of distribution are robust enough to serve customers directly or indirectly.

Juliet Kakayi Nsubuga has more than 20 years of sales and marketing expertise in FMCGs, retail and franchise rollout, as well as service and wholesale management in the telecommunications business.

Ms Juliet K Nsubuga, who joined MTN Uganda eighteen years ago, has risen through the ranks to become one of four women who make up the top-line leadership of Uganda’s premier telecom business and the country’s largest taxpayer.
Throughout her career, she has regularly increased traffic and income for each organisation for which she has worked, establishing a noteworthy legacy.
Juliet was a key member of the team that developed and launched the successful electronic airtime distribution technology. When the government issued the direction to the industry, this project seamlessly brought in electronic airtime distribution.
