Game drive
On the morning, afternoon, and evening game drive in a 4×4 vehicle with a retractable roof, you can observe animals such as kobs, elephants, Jackson’s hartebeest, and lions. On the early wildlife drive, it is possible to observe hyenas and leopards before they retreat to their dens.
During a night-time game drive in Murchison Falls National Park, nocturnal species such as leopards, bush babies, genets, hyenas, civets, porcupines, and lions can be observed.
There is the possibility to rent vehicles from Kalalo Cottage Inn.
Birding
With over 451 bird species, Murchison Falls National Park is one of the best destinations for birding in Uganda. Game drives, nature walks in savannah grasslands, and boat tours along the Nile and Lake Albert Delta provide the best opportunity for bird watching at Murchison Falls.
In the dry thorn bushes near Paraa, silver birds, blue-napped mousebirds, and weavers can be sighted. During a boat cruise on the Nile, various additional bird species may be observed.
Bring binoculars, sunglasses, caps, a birding guide, good shoes, a pointer, and extra water for the best birding experience.
Sport fishing
Fishing at Murchison Falls National Park is an additional interesting activity while on a safari in Uganda. You can catch Nile Perch, Tiger Species, Catfish, Nile Tilapia, and other fish at the base of the falls. The fish you capture is yours to keep as a prize for participating in the activity.
During the activity, you have the chance to view Blue Quails, Lesser and Great Swamp Warblers, Common Squacco, White-headed, and Black-billed Barbet, Greenwood Hoopoe, Blue-breasted Shining-blue Kingfishers, Striated, and Black-headed Herons, and numerous other bird and animal species.
Hiking
Some of the most memorable activities at Murchison Falls National Park include trekking through the Kaniyo Pabidi and Rabongo woods in search of primates including red-tailed monkeys and silver monkeys.
There will also be many different kinds of birds, such as the grasshopper buzzard, the booted eagle, and the crested barbet.
Boat cruise to the base of the falls
The boat ride up to the falls is a highlight of any safari to Murchison Falls National Park. On a boat safari up the river Nile, you will observe elephant herds coming to wash and drink, buffaloes in large numbers, several species of antelope, and countless water birds.
Visitors can disembark at the base of the falls during the Murchison Falls Boat Safari. Hiking up to the Falls’ observation deck begins at that point. There, you are met by your driver-guide who will be waiting to take you back to the resort.
Chimpanzee tracking
Budongo Forest is a Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Research Station, making it a prime location for chimpanzee tracking, and affording you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to observe these fascinating primates in their natural habitat.
During the off-season, it is possible to engage in an entire-day Chimpanzee Habituation here. At the modestly priced Budongo Eco-Lodge, lodging and meals are available.
Budongo Forest is a wonderful location for chimpanzee tracking and chimpanzee habituation experiences, birdwatching, trekking, and nature walks lasting from a few hours to an entire day.
Chimpanzee tracking is best accomplished by adding a day to your Murchison Falls Park Safari or as an add-on on your first or last day in the park.
Hot air balloon safaris
Murchison Falls National Park is the only park in Uganda where a hot air balloon Wildlife Safari is available. Observe the sunrise over the savannah and then soar above the park above the treetops, where you may observe the greatest species.
There are large herds of buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, and antelopes in the park. Observe the predators below as they return from a night of hunting.
After that, you’ll be treated to a champagne bush breakfast like no other, cooked to perfection by the chefs at Paraa Lodge. In Uganda, you can only have this kind of experience on a hot air balloon ride.
