Kansiime Kubiryaba Anne best known as Anne Kansiime is a Ugandan entertainer, comedian, actress, MCee and businesswoman. Kansiime was named “Africa’s Queen of Comedy” by a section of African media empires.
She’s one of the wealthiest comedians in Africa. Kansiime is the owner of Kubby’s Club in Naalya and a hotel in Kabale. She earned numerous awards and recognition from influential people including the Queen of England, Elizabeth II.
Early Life and Education
Kansiime Kubiryaba Anne was born on 13th April 1986 in Mparo town, present-day Rukiga District before it was curbed out of Kabale District, Western Uganda.
Her father is a retired banker while her mother was a housewife (late) who died in June 2021.
She attended Kabale Primary School, then Bweranyangi Girl’s Senior Secondary School, Bushenyi District for both O’&A’ Level education. Thereafter, Kansiime joined Makerere University, the oldest and largest public university in Uganda where she graduated with a Bachelor’ Degree in Social Science.
Work and Experience
Kansiime Kubiryaba Anne began her acting career in 2007, while at Makerere University. She was a dramatist at Theater Factory, a drama group that staged their plays at the Uganda National Theatre in Kampala, Uganda’s Capital City.
Later, Theatre Factory disintegrated and Kansime joined Fun Factory, a group that plays every Thursday evening. Some of their skits were broadcasted on NTV Uganda on Barbed Wire, a TV show that later became U-Turn.
Also, Anne Kansiime hosted the MiniBuzz, a television series on NTV alongside Brian Mulondo. The duos were taxi conductors who interviewed passengers on random topics.
Kansiime later in 2014 began posting her sketch comedy skits on YouTube and she received positive feedback. This motivated her to post more of such skits.
Thereafter, Citizen TV based in Kenya, Uganda’s neighbour offered Kansiime a slot to air her skits once a week. This is how the “Don’t Mess with Kansiime” comedy show came about, she’s widely known with millions of views online.
In November 2014, Kansiime’s YouTube channel had amassed more than 15 million views including featuring on BBC Focus on Africa. She has played to packed houses in Blantyre, Gaborone, Kigali, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos, Lilongwe, London, Lusaka and Harare.
Kansiime also performs as a standup comedian. Most of her comedy skits focus on personal life; she says these tend to be different and original. She as well does children’s music.
She’s also the Wild Aid ambassador for Africa, brand ambassador for DSTV in 2016, brand ambassador Sasuza Visa, Lato Yoghurt, Mukwano Industries and Chipper Cash.
Kansiime Kubiryaba Anne got married to Gerald Ojok, an Acholi by ethnicity in 2013 in a lovely traditional marriage ceremony.
However, the couple later dissolved their marriage in 2017 and currently, Kansiime is co-habiting with Tukahiirwa Abraham aka Skylanta, Ugandan singer and together they have a son named Selassie Ataho.
Skylanta met Kansiime in 2018 shortly after she divorced Ojok and the two got engaged on Mother’s Day, 2021, a few months after welcoming their son.
