Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze blames bloggers for playing with Mc Kats HIV positive health status

Hon Betty Nambooze, the Mukono Municipality MP, sadly react to social media bloggers who joked with Edwin Katamba, also commonly known as Mc Kats, after revealing that he was HIV positive during his Celebrity Night show at the Wave Lounge.

Nambooze says that the news of this young celebrity MC Kats together with his girlfriend Fille Mutoni (a woman she loves a lot), and even though they are young parents, it’s hard to live a positive life; that’s why it was enough to make everyone sad.

“Unfortunately not all Ugandans …a few careless and reckless individuals whose behaviour borders on being sadists quickly picked on the news in a celebratory mood and straight away started demonizing these two people, “said Honourable Betty Nambooze.

The Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze wondered why someone would go on recording a video of a disturbed person like Mc Kats and keep posting it on social media platforms.

This happened when Mc Kats video went viral to social media as he searched for his drugs. The video shows how Kats screamed in pain while searching for drugs.

“This left me wondering why you today’s young people are that cruel? It’s my humble opinion that Kats and his girlfriend have a right to rebuild and get on with their lives without the judgments or scorn of strangers, and without their names being reduced to bywords for both HIV and craziness. After all, I think it’s no less than what anybody would want for him or herself,” said Nambooze, an opposition lawmaker.

Most Ugandans on their social media platforms continued to applaud Mc Kats for coming out publicly and sharing his HIV positive health status, thereby urging him to encourage young people to go for medical check-ups on their condition.

Nambooze says that society is facing the biggest challenge in the fight against this HIV/AIDS virus because of people’s reactions to those suspected of being infected.

She adds that this time around social media bloggers have made things worse because they’re looking for thousands of views, likes and comments that ultimately attract business to them.

“To this end, it’s my sincere request that both formal and social media respect their privacy. Good enough Kats hasn’t been selfish…he has come out and declared his status most probably as a contribution to the fight against HIV,” Nambooze continued to say.

According to Nambooze, what MC Kats and family need in this difficult moment is love and understanding from the public about their situation now.

“We love you Kats and Philly Lutaaya, and we want to assure you that HIV/AIDs is not a death sentence…And I request that this Sunday we pray for this young man, his girlfriend and children plus the millions of people infected and affected by HIV/AIDs, ”said Nambooze.

As a good researcher, the Honorable Betty Nambooze made her comments to the public.

“Research has shown that whenever AIDs has won, stigma, shame, distrust, discrimination and apathy was on its side. Every time AIDs has been defeated, it has been because of trust, openness, dialogue between individuals and communities, family support, human solidarity, and the human perseverance to find new paths and solutions,” observed, Honourable Betty Nambooze.
