Gen. Tumwine censorship begins, Ssemujju vows not to participate in the process saying Parliament must carry its cross

Tumwine censorship begins – Members of Parliament yesterday Tuesday 11, February 2020 started the process of signing a petition to censure Security Minister Gen Elly Tumwine as passed by plenary last week.

The Clerk to Parliament released forms to collect 150 signatures in 10 working days for Parliament to throw Gen Tumwine out of office, and if they fail to raise the signatures between the stated days, then Parliament will have lost the motion to Tumwine.

Allan Ssewanyana, the Makindye West legislator was the first to sign in the book saying this the only way to show the country that they are against Gen Tumwine’s indiscipline actions.

Moses Kasibante, Lubaga North legislator, however, said that their action is not against Gen Tumwine as a person but his misconduct.

“We are not against Tumwine Elly as an individual, we are against impunity and arrogance in him. Everybody who is against that must sign,” Kasibante aid.

Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, the opposition Chief Whip at Parliament, said he’s not going to engage in the process of censoring Gen Tumwine because Parliament is testing its own medicine, they have always paid a deaf ear to their warnings.

“For me, the blame is on Parliament, there are people who would never be put in positions of authority, let them get there because they carried the gun. But when you help them to get there and they begin misbehaving, you must carry your cross,” Ssemujju said.

Ssemujju adds that Tumwine is not part of their activities as the opposition.
