Early Life

With two other siblings, Spice Diana is the eldest child. She has had a humble upbringing.

After being forced to marry at the age of 14, Spice’s mother, Nantale, got pregnant a few months later giving birth to Spice Diana.

The marriage, however, did not last. She grew up with an absent father who abandoned them after a misunderstanding with their mother.

Spice’s mother got married to a new husband, Mansur Ntwatwa who lived in Kibuli, thus the family moved from Mpererwe to Kibuli. Mansur filled in the fatherly void and gave Spice her Muslim name ‘Hajarah’

After their breakup, Spice’s mother moved to Nansana with her kids, then on to Nakulabye, the place where Spice Diana’s desire for singing began.

Her mother discouraged her and advised her to change genres, which she did, writing her debut song, Nze Akwagala.

Spice Diana left Avie Records and joined Emma Carlos’ Twinkle Star Management, which was managing Khalifa Aganaga at the time.

Before meeting manager Roger, who had split up with Ziza Bafana, Spice Diana was under the ownership of Humble Management, which was controlled by Jones.

Spice Diana performed her first successful concert at the FrontPage Hotel in 2018. In 2019, she moved to Freedom City, a larger venue, where she performed another spectacular show.

Controversies

In 2017, Spice Diana was beaten up by the Uganda Police after performing at the Kampala City Festival.

She stated on social media that the lyrics of Onsanula which contained a verse about the police may have been the cause of her beating.

Later on, she dropped a song called Twebereremu, which was an indictment to the police.

Spice made headlines on NTV during an interview in 2018 when she claimed to have achieved 32 points in her A-level exams, while the maximum point total is 20. She later clarified that she was referring to her O-level results.

Following this, she launched a music studio called 32 Records and dropped a song with Weasel titled 32.

She experienced a health scare in late 2022, which resulted in hospitalization and death rumours. Later on, she acknowledged receiving treatment for a damaged hernia and gave thanks to Jesus for sparing her life.

Social internet was rife with speculations in September 2023 that manager Roger Lubega was dating his artist Spice Diana.

The audio, which was made public by an unidentified source, featured Manager Roger declaring his love and how much he missed Spice Diana.

In response to manager Roger, Spice Diana was overheard saying that she too missed him and was eager to spend that time with him.

Roger is a married man, though, and has kids. Spice Diana has been informing the media that she is seeing someone, but she is not interested in making the news public.

Diana was awarded an appalling amount of Ugandan Shs. 319, 635 by the Uganda Performing Right Society (UPRS) in June 2023, for the full five years of her music career.

She returned the money to UPRS in protest, believing it to be an unfair reimbursement.
