Ssemujju Nganda says 2021 elections will be a waste of time and money, NRM has already rigged it
Opposition Chief Whip of Parliament, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has implied that the upcoming 2021 elections will be a waste of time and money because they have already been rigged by the party in power (NRM).
Uganda will be holding their General Presidential elections next year in early 2021 however, Ssemujju who is also the Kira Municipality MP has insisted that the 2021 presidential elections will be a walkover for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) because they have already rigged it.
Ssemujju who made the remarks while appearing on NBS Television’s Morning Breeze on Monday 03th February said that Museveni fears any form of organized competition and that is why he has always decided to use alternative means to acquire more votes.
“2021 is likely to be the worst election this country has experienced because our dear leader does not want any organized competition. I do not think there is anyone sane who will say this election will be fair,” Ssemujju implied.

Also, Ssemujju said that Museveni is prohibiting others from campaigning while him together with his are always holding daily campaigns. He further added that opposition members have faced it rough dealing with the police and military who are very cruel towards them.
“You have one person and his group campaigning every day. That is the frame under which we go to the elections. It is manoeuvring to survive in the game, police and military are abusing the law,” added Ssemujju.

He, however, implied that the 2021 Uganda elections will be the biggest investment the country will ever make with up to two trillion shillings spent.
“The Electoral Commission has appeared before our committee about four to five times regarding their budget. The 2021 elections will be the biggest investment Uganda will make. We shall spend more than 2 trillion,” Ssemujju stated.

Police reaction to the opposition
Earlier this year, Police has blocked many opposition candidates from holding presidential consultation meetings with their supporters.
Notably, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party former president Dr Kizza Besigye who was recently arrested and remanded in Nalufenya prison as he travelled to Jinja to celebrate the 15th anniversary since the founding of FDC as part of simultaneous celebrations in various districts of Eastern Uganda.
The people power initiator, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine also had his presidential consultation meetings cancelled by the police earlier in January this year including the 6th, January meeting held at his home constituency Kyadondo East in Our Lady of Good Counsel, Gayaza, another one in Lira.
