Game drive

Morning, afternoon and night game drives in a 4X4 wheel drive vehicle with a pop-up roof provide clear views of wildlife species such as Jackson’s hartebeest, elephants, bushbucks, and lions.

If you’re lucky, you can see predators such as hyenas and leopards on the morning game drive before they return to their dens.

During a night game drive in Murchison Falls National Park, you can observe nocturnal species such as leopards, bush babies, genets, hyenas, civets, porcupines, lions, and many others.

Boat cruise in Murchison Falls National Park

A boat cruise to the bottom of the falls or downstream to the Victoria Nile delta extending to the shores of Lake Albert is a fascinating excursion. There are two boat cruise timetables.

The morning begins around 9 a.m. while the afternoon begins around 2:00 p.m. You will be able to observe species such as hippos, crocodiles, elephants, waterbucks, giraffes, buffaloes, kobs, and waterbucks while on a boat excursion.

African fish eagle, Abyssinian hornbill, African jacana, saddle-billed stork, dwarf kingfisher, African skimmer, Chapin flycatcher, and many others are among the water birds that can be observed.

Recreational fishing

You can catch several fish species such as Nile perch, tiger fish, and catfish while fishing here. All you need to do for simple fishing is carry your fishing gear.

Chimpanzee tracking

The optimal time to participate in chimpanzee tracking is during the dry months of June to September and December to February. You can still visit the park during the wet season, which begins in March and ends in May and November.

These are the greatest months for viewing gorgeous bird species, when lodging costs are lower, and when there are fewer visitors.

How to get to Twiga Safari Lodge

Situated on the fringes of Murchison Falls National Park, the Twiga Safari Lodge can be found on the southern bank of the Nile. The lodge is about 350 kilometres from Kampala, Uganda’s capital. Masindi, located about 3.5 hours’ drive from Kampala, is the closest town to the national park.

The Kichumbanyobo gate is the most convenient entrance to Murchison Falls National Park for those coming from Masindi (just 82 kilometres away). From the gate travel right through the Kaniyo Pabidi area of the Budongo Forest, past the escarpment and towards the Paraa ferry point.

Approximately 5 kilometres from the ferry terminal, there will be an intersection with multiple signposts, including one for Twiga Safari Lodge. To approach the Mubako Gate from the park headquarters, head left and pass through the Paraa primary school.

Twiga Safari Lodge is located 1 kilometre to the right of the Mubako gate. Leaving the Murchison Fall National Park gate, this hike can take anything from an hour to two hours. This is a dirt/murram road, so please drive safely.
