Uganda’s opposition leader Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has once again been placed under house arrest. He made the confirmation in a statement via his Facebook page on Tuesday evening.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has once again been placed under house arrest.

The 39-year-old opposition leader made the confirmation in a statement via his Facebook page on Tuesday evening. He said that the security personnel surrounded his home moments after his return from the NUP Secretariat in Kamwokya where he held a press conference in the morning.

Kyagulanyi noted that the officers have since told him that they were ordered to deter him from moving out of his home.

“Once again I have been effectively placed under unexplained house arrest. As we were addressing the press, our offices were surrounded by police and military officers,” part of Kyagulanyi’s statement read.

“On my way out of the office, I was immediately arrested and driven home only to be placed under house arrest. An hour ago, I attempted to leave, and the armed men told me they have orders not to allow me to leave my home!.”

His arrest, however, comes after recent peaceful protests spearheaded by the NUP leader himself in demand to have all their party supporters who were detained falsely during the January 14 elections released.

On Monday, Kyagulanyi and his group who are protesting under the theme “Bring back our people” were arrested at the City Square and later released with police citing that they were inciting violence.

Relatively, another group of NUP supporters seen protesting in Nsambya, near the American Embassy was also arrested. The group was seen holding posters on the roadside with written statements of how dissatisfied they were at President Museveni’s government.

Despite all these abductions, however, Kyagulanyi insists they are not determined to stop until all their people are set free. He says the protests are peaceful and very lawful.

“I therefore encourage all of you fellow Ugandans to continue protesting peacefully against all the injustice but most importantly to demand of the regime to #BringBackOurPeople who are continuously abducted and tortured or even murdered in detention.”
