Sophie Gombya to dedicate more time to politics after resigning as UMA President.
Singer Sophie Gombya has officially left her position of serving as the President of the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) in a bid to dedicate more time to politics.
In recent weeks, posters with Sophie’s pictures have been circulating on various social media platforms indicating that the musician intends to run for the position of serving as the Lord Woman Councilor, Kampala Central in the forthcoming elections.
Justifying her resignation from the UMA position because the association does not permit any of its full members to participate and engage in politics.
She has served in the position since May 2019 based on supporting the local music industry raise their voices and develop solutions about the problems they face as musicians.
Meanwhile, Sophie Gombya will be replaced by fellow singer, Wycliffe Tugume alias Ykee Benda who currently has been serving as the Deputy President of the association.
The association, however, plans to organize a meeting later this year to determine and choose a new leader to take up the vacant position.
Earlier, the music association had lost its true dimension since the resignation of Swangz Avenue’s boss Julius Kyaze but following a new appointment last year that saw Gombya take up the role, the association has now come back to light.

The Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) is licensed by the National Union of Creative Performing Artists and Allied Workers (NUCPAAW), to represent musicians, producers and artist managers.
UMA operates to protect, promote and preserve Ugandan music, and advocate for the interests of its members to the government, the music industry, the media and the public.

Sophie Gombya is a renowned Ugandan musician and social activist. She is married to fellow musician Sam Gombya.
Gombya’s talent has been unquestionable over years. She sings with a sharp soprano and performs with her husband Sam Gombya.
She came to the limelight with prominent songs such as “Spare tyre” written by her husband Sam were she sang about a woman with whom she is competing for the same man.
Other prominent songs from Sophie included Nkwesize, Gyangu gyendi, Lugya Lumu, Spare tyre, Sosotola, Salawo, Ngugumuka ekiro, Ssebo Muko and Mwenyumirizamu among others.
Meanwhile, she attended Nakivubo Blue for her primary education. She then joined Kawempe Muslim and later Kibibi Senior Secondary School.
