Here’s why Uganda police are planning to redesign female officers’ uniform

The Uganda Police Force on Friday 20th confirmed it’s the decision to redesign and rebrand from uniforms to shoes for all their female officers’.

According to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Asan Kasingye, many women officers do not look good in these male attires that is why they have decided to redesign their uniforms.

Kasingye who is also the chairman of the Police Uniforms Committee said that that they want to change mainly the trouser which appear very tight on them.

Also, Kasingye implied that the shoes these women wear are too heavy and that they will also be phased out like the uniform for new and lighter ones.

“We want to change the trouser because they (female offices) don’t look good in male attire. I am the chairman police uniform committee and we are soon gazetting a new uniform for female police officers.

“This one will be phased out for a new female trouser uniform. The shoes they put on are heavy and will be phased out for lighter ones,” Kasingye said.

Kasingye made these remarks at the opening ceremony of the second annual Uganda Police female officers’ national conference held at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala on Friday.

Many policewomen especially the Uganda traffic officers have been pictured wearing trousers which were formerly designed to fit men’s bodies.

These uniforms appear extremely tight and fitting on their bodies. Besides, the shirts are also too big with large pockets.

This in recent times has created a tatty appearance which has exposed them to victimisation by the public mostly on social media where these pictures are circulated.

Kasinge however, stressed that these attacks and acts of criticism from the public towards the female officers’ will be no more after the new designs of uniforms are brought on board.

Kansigye says that the changes will see female officers wear uniforms designed like ordinary women suits, with head caps also inclusive together with very light and portable shoes.

He further explained that some days back many individuals on social media were making fun of a one traffic officer dressed in extremely tight pants.

“Some days back, some people on social media were making fun of one of our female traffic officers who was putting on a trouser. The new design will help have this solved,” Kasingye explained further.
