President Museveni orders the arrest of all politicians misinforming Ugandans about Covid-19
President Museveni has directed the arrest of all politicians who have taken it upon themselves to spread wrong information regarding the coronavirus situation in the country.
Museveni directed while at the opening of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) delegates conference held at State House on Wednesday.
He said the propaganda from these politicians is one of the main reasons why many Ugandans even up to today have remained reluctant at observing the necessary Standard Operating Procedures to mitigate the spread of the virus.
The President in particular pinpointed instances that happened a few weeks back of politicians who were saying the disease does not kill Ugandans and others insisting that the virus is non-existent in the country.
“In Uganda, we have lost a total of 15 people. You remember people saying this disease is not killing people. I hear some politicians saying that there is no Coronavirus. If we get evidence, we shall prosecute them,” Museveni said.
Museveni also, rushed out to cite a section of locals who in recent weeks have been accusing the scientists for maintaining the lockdown for their benefits. He said the current deaths in the country from the virus can now justify.
“For four months, nobody died. People said the scientists are locking us down to make money. Well, on July 21st we had the first death,’’ Museveni said explaining that the government restrictions imposed earlier when Covid-19 was first announced in the country in March, were embarked to protect the lives of Ugandans.
The President however, advised Ugandans to always put their lives first in everything they do. He said the lock down has shown that many Ugandans are only money driven and they care less about their health.
“Everybody should know that we have no alternative. We shouldn’t be short-sighted to think about jobs, businesses and forget life,”

Museveni advised giving an example of Kampala where people have displayed laxity in containing the spread of the virus.
He said that many people residing in the main capital city have since the lockdown was lifted displayed a high degree of negligence.
According to Museveni, they have now abandoned the health ministry guidelines including washing of hands with soap, maintaining social distance among others something he said has now created a spike in the community cases.
“People in Kampala have given up in the fight against Coronavirus. They have relaxed so much and now the virus is advancing very fast in Kampala. When I speak next week, I will give you more details,” Museveni added.
