The court-martial in Makindye has released 13 supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP), denying bail to Eddie Mutwe, Nubian Li, and Dan Magic.

The general court-martial in Makindye has released 13 supporters of the former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi of National Unity Platform (NUP), denying bail to Eddie Mutwe, Nubian Li, and Dan Magic.

49 Kyagulanyi supporters were arrested last year December in Kalangala during the campaigns of Kyagulanyi and they were later brought to the army court and charged with unlawful possession of ammunition.

On Monday the group was brought to court and the army prosecutors led by Capt. Ambrose Guma told the court chairman, Lt Gen Andrew Gutti that they have instructions not to oppose the bail application for 12 of the 49 National Unity Platform supporters and guards to Bobi wine.

The granted bail supporters and guards include; Rachel Akiki Tusime, Saphina Nansove, Jamira Namwanje Kalyango, Shakira Namboozo, Joy Namuyimbwa, Monica Twashemerirwe, Oliver Lutaya and Benedicto Musisi.

The lawyers of the applicants also presented documents from St. Francis Hospital Nsambya showing that William Ntege alias Kyuma kya yesu was supposed to undergo treatment even before he was arrested.

In the ruling, the chairman of the army court Lt. Gen Andrew Gutti accepted to release the 13 NUP supporters but set tough conditions and if they break the conditions the bail application will be cancelled.

The chairman told the group that they were not supposed to move out of Wakiso and Kampala districts without court permission and the group was told to report to court twice a week.

Each of the persons granted bail was supposed to pay 20 million non-cash bond and each of the sureties was told to pay a non-cash bond of 50 million.

However, the court chairman noted that the rest of the team including Eddy Mutwe and Bobi’s singing partner Nubian li will have to wait for the court to decide on their bail application.

Gutti added that he would rule on their bail application on 15th February 2021 and he, therefore, remanded them back to Kitalya prison.

Most of the supporters were part of the 100 suspects who were last year granted bail by Masaka Court where they were charged with six counts, including inciting violence, assaulting police officers on duty and many more.
