
Maj. Gen Paul Lokech, Deputy Inspector General of Police, died early Saturday morning at his Kirinya home, according to reports. Ugandans across the country have mourned him on social media.
Ugandans across the country have rushed to social media to mourn the death of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen Paul Lokech reportedly died on Saturday morning at his home in Kirinya.
According to close family members, Lokech had been unwell after he reportedly fell from a chair at his home about a month ago and had since been attending to medical attention.
On Saturday morning, the general reportedly started feeling unwell after which he lost breath while in the bathroom. Close sources revealed that his last words were, “I losing my breath”.
Following the devastating news, politicians, leaders and other Ugandans rushed to social media to pass on their condolences.
One of them was the former Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga who is now the first deputy Prime Minister in charge of East African Affairs she sympathised with the fallen general’s family, friends and all those in the Uganda Police Force.
Kadaga wrote: “I would like to send my condolences to H.E the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, the family of Gen Lokech, the Uganda Police Force, and the people of Uganda RIP the” Lion of Mogadishu “.
Others including the Speaker of the 11th Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah said Lokech was not only a committed leader but was a very dependable person who will be such a huge loss to the nation.
“Gen.P.Lokech was a leader willing to put his soul into any job to get it“Done. He was dependable, committed and brought valour, patriotism,& poise to all his tasks. He always stepped in the gap; raising against formidable challenges. Such a huge loss to the nation. May his soul RIP,” Oulanyah said.
Political analyst, Andrew Mwenda said: “This morning, my friend and comrade, Maj. Gen. Paul Lokech, who has also been deputy Inspector General of Police, died suddenly and unexpectedly of a blood clot. I last talked to Lokech on Thursday at 8pm and he was very fine. Uganda has lost a true giant of a general.”
He added Lokech was not only a strong patriot but a great soldier who fought and won many battles. Mwenda said the deceased will be remembered for being very straightforward, dedicated and efficient.
The health minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng was another person who joined the list of mourners, she said: “It’s such a sad Saturday for us as a nation as we mourn the sudden demise of our gallant soldier, and the Lion of Mogadishu, Maj. Gen. Paul Lokech. May his soul rest in eternal peace. My prayers and thoughts are with his dear family. “
The Deputy Speaker of the 11th Parliament, Anita Among also joined other mourners. In her statement, she said the country has lost a dedicated servant in General Lokech who will be had to replace.
“Maj General Paul Lokech was a patriot committed to the service of his Country and the African Continent and in him the Country has lost a dedicated servant. My sympathies to his family and the armed forces. May the Lord grant him eternal rest.”
