Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema of Anti-Corruption Unit asks church leaders to help her in the fight against corruption

The head of the Anti-Corruption Unit, Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema has called upon church leaders to join hands with her in the fight against corruption, in the country.

Nakalema during her Sunday sermon at St. Paul Church of Uganda Mulago, a Kampala suburb said that the struggle to end corruption in the country is too big for her to handle alone, religious heads countrywide should assist her in the fight.

“Let us join hands together against corruption, everybody has a responsibility in the struggle to make Uganda free from corruption,” Nakalema stated.

Nakalema who as well urged religious leaders to trust and believe God that one-day, corruption will be no more in the country, made the remarks during a thanksgiving event of Lawyer, Nicholas Twesigye of twesigye@coadvocates, he made together with his family, relatives, church and friends.

Since corruption is a result of moral decay, Nakalema says religious leaders need to lead the struggle and double their efforts while preaching against corruption, because the message they preach, deals directly with one’s heart.

“Corruption is in the hearts of the people; they need to get saved.”

However, Nakalema asked religious leaders to pray for her because she’s facing intimidation from the corrupt officials in the country. Despite, the backlash, Nakalema vows not to stop the fight for the sake of Ugandans who are victims in this matter.

“I’m now being demonised because I’, fighting corruption. But I must fight for God’s people. I want a team of people to pray for me,” Nakalema said.

“Some people are now calling us all sorts of names; that we murder, criminals, but all that will not deter the fight against corruption.”

Alongside Nakalema, 2016 former Presidential candidate, Francis Bwengye, Law Fraternity, attended the thanksgiving ceremony as well.
