Adome Jeremy, 36, arrested for allegedly stealing 80,000 USD from a client’s room at Speke Apartments.

Police at Jinja Road have arrested one man identified as Adome Jeremy, 36, for allegedly stealing 80,000 USD from a client’s room at Speke Apartments.

The money allegedly stolen belonged to one Sheila Nandege, 36, who had booked the apartment for 30 days on the December 5th,2020.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire the deputy police spokesperson, they were able to review CCTV footage from the apartment and they saw a man together with another colleague leaving Nandege’s room with items.

Owoyesigyire said that one of the men fled to his home area in Arua but they were able to trace and arrest him on Tuesday. They are however yet to identify the whereabouts of the other individual.

“According to the CCTV footage recovered from the apartment on December 24th 2020, the suspect, who is the same time a resident in the building, is seen accessing room 107 with another person yet to be arrested,” part of Owoyesigire’s statement read.

“They are later seen leaving with items. The suspect later fled to his home in Arua. The police used all relevant information available and were able to trace him to his home. He was arrested yesterday.”

Owoyesigire also, said that a sum of 60,000 USD was recovered from the suspect. He noted that the exhibited money is what was stolen from the room.

“A sum of 60,000 USD counterfeit money has been recovered from the suspect and it has since been exhibited. He has, however, insisted that the exhibited money is what he stole from the room.”

The police deputy further said that they have already advanced their investigations to determine greater details of what transpired in the CCTV footage.

“Police are investigating these allegations. The police are also on the hunt for his accomplice, who was seen in the footage breaking into Room 107 at Speke Apartments.

“We call upon service providers to, at all time, monitor their security to avoid such incidents in the future,” Owoyesigire added.

Meanwhile, this comes at a time when the Kampala city socialite Sheila Nadege is popularly known as Don Zella earlier this week sued Speke Hotel (1996) limited trading as Speke Apartments seeking payment for damages worth $125,000 (about Shs 461 million).

In reference to a lawsuit filed before the High Court Civil Division, Don Zella noted that on December 6, 2020, she rented two apartment rooms number 107 and 512 operated by Speke Apartments.

However, on December 25 while she and her family members were away, a thief or thieves at around 4 pm, broke into her apartment room 107 and stole her properties worth Shs460 million.
