After the four-kilometre Anti-Corruption walk, President Museveni is yet again to lead a 60 miles (100 kilometres)) veterans, youth and well-wishers in a symbolic trek, from Galamba in Wakiso District to Birembo in Kibaale District to celebrate heroic sacrifices for patriotism by the freedom fighters.

“The trek which should be on foot, should remind the elderly but also sensitise the younger people, including the Bazukulu (youth), the heroic exertions of freedom fighters who were doing for no pay, no reward just for patriotism, (mwooyo GWA Uganda),” Museveni statement stated.

The president’s statement was released by his Senior Press Secretary, Don Wanyama on Wednesday 18th/December/2019.

The symbolic trek code titled “Africa Kwetu” will last for three days starting on the 6th until the 9th of January 2020. It was organised by the National Resistance Army (NRA), Archives Unit lead by the President’s Adviser/NRA, Alice Kabooyo.

Don Wanyama in his address said that each day the trekkers will be covering a distance of 15 to 20 miles and take a rest over a bonfire together with the President for tells about Uganda’s liberation history.

“It is hoped that the trekkers will cover between 15 to 20 miles per day before breaking off in the evening over a bonfire where the President and other veterans will address the trekkers about Uganda’s liberation journey with emphasis on the role of various organisations including The Front for National Salvation (FRONASA) and the National Resistance Movement,” said Wanyama.

In the three-day event, trekkers will watch historical clips on large screens, interact, ask questions and hear from veterans who made sacrifices for the sake of Uganda’s freedom.

“Next year’s trek will culminate into building a historical NRA Museum at Kanyara in Nakaseke District. Various individuals and corporate organisations from around the country have already registered for the trek that will involve various war veterans,” Wanyama said.

President Museveni aged 75 who has ruled Uganda for 33 years, earlier this month led an Anti-Corruption walk starting from the Constitutional Square to Kololo Air Strip, purposely to intensify the fight against corruption under the theme: “A corruption-free Uganda; it starts with me”.

Addressing the gathering at Kololo Air Strip after the walk, President Museveni revealed that he very well knows the corrupt officials in government one by one. However, he’s still collecting enough evidence pinning them.

He also said that corrupt officials are parasites and bad investors into the country’s economy.

Nevertheless, his Anti-Corruption walk received criticism from his opponents’ with Dr Kizza Besigye, the opposition strongman saying it was a parade of the most corrupt officials in the country conducting a demonstration headed by President Museveni who he described as the chief of the corrupt persons in Uganda.
