Anti-Corruption walk led by President Museveni was a parade of the most corrupt government officials – Besigye

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Wednesday 4, December 2019, led the Anti-Corruption walk as announced earlier starting from the Constitutional Square to Kololo Air Strip at around 8:30 am, purposely to intensify the fight against corruption which Besigye term as a parade of the corrupt officials.

President Museveni was in the company of Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of Civil Society Organisations, religious leaders alongside a Police band and army officials.

However, as President Museveni was planning to lead the walk, Dr Kizza Besigye, the four-time Presidential candidate, leader People’s Government and the former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President also waked up early Wednesday morning to lead a parallel walk, against Corruption different from the one arranged by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.

But Police did not allow Besigye’s day’s activity to succeed after they besieged his residence blocking his way out of his house.

By 6:00 am, two Police pick-ups and other security vans had already surrounded Besigye’s home in Kasangati, Wakiso District.

Besigye was meant to lead a parallel Anti-Corruption walk right from Kasangati to Katonga Road where his offices are located.

Following the development, Besigye who was stack inside his compound said that;

“Once People are corrupt, those they steal from start suffering, when they come out to show their displeasure, those who are corrupt fight them (the people) viciously,” Besigye said.

After some time, Kizza Besigye managed to escape out of his house that was heavily guarded by armed Policemen and headed to the city centre to begin his parallel Anti-Corruption walk.

However, at around Mpererwe along Gayaza road in Wakiso District, Police intercepted his car and hauled it back to his house.

Besigye says President Museveni Anti-Corruption walk is a parade of the most corrupt Ugandans, conducting a demonstration headed by Mr Museveni who he described as the Chief of the Corrupt persons in the country.

“What’s happening today is a good demonstration of a captive state because you saw that the city was surrounded by gunmen, ensuring that whatever they want to happen is what happens,” Besigye said.

“I understand there has been a march in the town of public servants; people that we pay who are the problem of this country, involved in public sector corruption.”

Besigye continued to state that;

“Today, we have a demonstration of the corrupt, headed by the chief corrupt person, Mr Museveni himself. It’s the parade of the corrupt. What we wanted to do was to precisely label them to show who they were. To show that these were the problem. Unfortunately, they have succeeded in blocking the whole city. However, I think the statement is made that on one side of the guns are the corrupt, and on the other side are those they are stealing from,” Besigye added.

Besigye in his view, says corruption will never end in Uganda unless Ugandans defeat those with guns whom he called armed robbers raiding the country.

“It should demonstrate to the people of Uganda that corruption can never end unless we defeat those gun. It’s not corruption, it’s armed robbery. What goes on is nothing but armed robbery and sometimes very literally, I’m sure you know how many times Mr Museveni has raided Bank of Uganda without the approval of Parliament. At one time taking more than 2trillion shillings,” Besigye stated.
