Tamale Mirundi to President Museveni: You should be worried about Bobi Wine
Mirundi believes the president was ill advised to arrest Bobi Wine

Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) has been re-arrested shortly after the Army Court Martial sitting in Gulu dropped charges of unlawful gun possession against him. Kyagulanyi was informed of his arrest by his lawyer, Medard Lubega Sseggona outside the court room.

“I have been informed to inform you that you are under arrest,” Sseggona told his client who was in company of his elder brother Eddy Yawe and fellow legislators.

Bobi Wine later appeared before Gulu Chief Magistrate’s court, where he was read charges of treason. The legislator joins colleagues, who include Arua Member of Parliament-elect Kassiano Wadri, Jinja East MP Paul Mwiru, Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga and Makindye West former MP Michael Mabike and 29 others who are facing similar charges.

They were remanded last week, while Bobi Wine appeared before the military court martial where he has been facing charges of unlawful gun possession. Court martial however dropped the charges against the Musician turned politician on Thursday morning.

In his ruling, Court Martial Chairman Lt. Gen Andrew Gutti said court had received an application requiring Bobi to appear in a civil court where the other proceedings are being heard. He added that Defence lawyers had agreed with the applicant and thus the army court had to discharge him.

The Chief Magistrates court had to amend the previous charge sheet to include Bobi Wine on the list of the 33 accused persons. The legislator didn’t enter plea since court had no jurisdiction to hear treason charges against him. He was remanded until August 30, when he, together with his co-accused will reappear in court.

Kyagulanyi and his co-accused were arrested last Monday following a campaign chaos in Arua, during which the Presidential motorcade was attacked.

However, Police later paraded an SMG rifle and a pistol plus 35rounds of ammunition, which they said were recovered from Bobi Wine’s hotel room in Arua, prompting his prosecution before the army court.
