HUGE BLOW for Man U as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Marcus Rashford stress fracture
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that forward, Marcus Rashford will spend up to six weeks on the sidelines with a back stress fracture.
Rashford who is now Manchester United league topscorer was substituted 15 minutes after coming on as a substitute in Wednesday’s 1-0 FA Cup win against Wolves after picking up a knock.
At that time the injury didn’t seem too serious, however, his manager Solskjaer stated that forward Rashford will be out for more than a month.
“It’s a back stress fracture. It happened against Wolves. It’s not happened before, it happened there and then. He’ll be out for a while normally six weeks to heal, but I’m not a doctor,” said Solskjaer at presser ahead of their trip to Burnely tomorrow 21st January.Tweet
Rashford missed Manchester United Sunday’s trip to Premier League leaders, Liverpool. He is set to miss even a couple of more games for United.
With 22 goals for club and country this season and 14 of those coming in the Premier League, will be a big miss to the United team.
However, Solskjaer is reluctant whether the club would seek a replacement for the 22-year-old but he confirmed they might look to short term targets to get their season buzzing again.
“We don’t desperately need a striker if the right one is there and it fits for us… we’ve got players who are champing at the bit,” Solskjaer stated.Tweet
“We’ve had many injuries for big players this season. It’s just an unfortunate situation we’re in. We might look at some short-term deals as well that could take us through to the summer.”Tweet
Manchester United’s transfer targets
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to make improvements to his squad this month.
Solskjaer is desperate to add midfield reinforcements this month with Inter Milan’s midfielder Matias Vecino one of the top targets.
The 28-year-old Uruguay international is not considered a first-choice at Inter and could be allowed to leave the San Siro if Christian Eriksen is signed by the Italians this month.
United and Sporting Lisbon are reportedly also set to ‘meet in the middle’ over a deal for Bruno Fernandes as they could settle on a fee of £46.9million (€55m) plus bonuses.
United are eager to sign the midfielder before the end of this month but Sporting was demanding a fee of £68m.
Manchester United have also been linked with a move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.
The 23-year-old is wanted by many clubs in Europe after impressing for the Ligue 1 club. Reports indicate United are ready to make an offer of around £42.6million, plus bonuses, for the striker.
They are also believed to have sent a scout to watch him in action against Nantes at the weekend.
Edinson Cavani could be another option for Man United this month according to reports.
The striker handed in a transfer request to PSG earlier this week and has also been linked with Chelsea as he seeks a move away from Paris.
