Monica Musenero Masanza is a Ugandan veterinarian, microbiologist and epidemiologist, who serves as a consultant epidemiologist in the government of Uganda and a presidential adviser on issues concerning pandemics and epidemics.
Musenero previously served as a Principal Epidemiologist and Assistant Commissioner for Epidemiology and Surveillance at the Ministry of Health Uganda.
She played an active role in controlling Ebola epidemics in the country, Democratic Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone, a West African country.

Early Life and Education
Monica Musenero was born in Patete sub-county present-day Butebo former Pallisa District in Eastern Uganda. She attended local primary schools before joining Bubulo Girl’s Secondary School from where she attained her O’ Level certificate.
Then Nabumali High School for her A’ Level studies obtaining her certificate in 1987.
Thereafter, Musenero got admitted to Makerere University Kampala in 1987, the oldest and largest public university in the country graduating with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine Degree, in 1992.
Musenero proceeded with school and was awarded a Master of Public Health (MPH) Degree, specializing in Field Epidemiology (2003-2006) by Makerere University, Master of Science Degree in Microbiology and Immunology by Cornell University, Ithaca, NY United States (1994-1997).
Work and Experience
Dr Monica Musenero worked as a Consultant Epidemiologist and Senior Program Officer with the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET), based in Kampala, Uganda (April 2008-August 2011.
In 2011, she was promoted to Regional Epidemiology Director, Strengthening Decentralization for Sustainability (SDS) (September 2011-January 2013) in Kampala Uganda, serving in that capacity until 2013.
August 2014-October 2014, Musenero served as a consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO) during the Ebola virus epidemic in Sierra Leone.
Later in 2015, Musenero got hired by the Ministry of Health Uganda as the Principal Epidemiologist and Assistant Commissioner, Epidemiology and Surveillance (February 2015-March 2020).
She played an active role in controlling Ebola epidemics in the country, particularly the Bundibugyo outbreak, Democratic Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone, a West African country.
In 2014, during the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea, Dr Musenero was recalled to offer technical advice in the affected countries in West Africa since she had experience in managing Ebola cases.
In 2020, before Uganda recorded her first COVID-19 case, Dr Musenero was appointed as a senior presidential advisor as far as the Coronavirus pandemic is concerned.
August 2013-March 2020, Musenero served as the Executive Director at St. Paul Investment Limited, providing strategic leadership and implementing organizational policy, organizational development and institutionalization of culture.
July 2014-August 2014, Musenero was a Consultant Field Epidemiologist, in Kenema, Sierra Leone. Then February 2013-August 2013, she served as the Vice President/interim CEO of, the Uganda Veterinary Association, Kampala Uganda.

Dr Monica Musenero is married to Michael Masanza and together they’re parents of three children.
