In the 22nd Prayer Breakfast function, Museveni made the remarks at Entebbe State House, saying the Covid-19 still has no cure.

President Museveni Thursday urged Ugandans not to relax adhering to the guidelines in place aimed at fighting the Covid-19 because there is still no cure and vaccine for the coronavirus.

The President made the remarks during the 22nd Prayer Breakfast function held at the State House in Entebbe. He said that many individuals have displayed laxity towards the guidelines aimed at minimizing the spread of the Covid-19 but this is not good because the world is yet to discover a vaccine.

‘’On COVID, I hear people are now relaxed. Until we are sure of a cure or vaccine, please don’t rest on your laurels. This disease has killed over one million people globally in just a few months. Shortcuts are bad and dangerous. Patience is a virtue. Impatience is a satanic spirit,’’ Museveni said calling for calmness among Ugandans.

This comes at a time when the virus continues to surge in the country. The health ministry yesterday confirmed 182 new cases from COVID-19 tests done on 07 October 2020 pushing Uganda’s case count to 9,442.

Of these, 177 cases came from the contacts and alerts including 110 cases from Kampala, 10 from Gulu, nine cases from Moyo, seven cases from Wakiso, six cases from Gomba, Five cases from Koboko, four cases from each of Moroto, Soroti, and Yumbe districts, two cases came from Buvuma district while one case came from districts of Arua, Dokolo, Katakwi, Lamwo, Luwero, Maracha, Nabilatuk, Obongi, Kaberamaido and Adjumani.

The Ministry also said that four cases were of returnees from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and South Sudan while one case was registered of a truck driver via the Mutukula border point of entry.

These numbers according to Museveni are still big and individuals should not relax adhering to the Standard Operating Procedures because it will put the government’s efforts on fighting the virus in vain.

Meanwhile, the 22nd Prayer Breakfast function was held scientifically as a result of the coronavirus pandemic that continues to fast spread around the country.

The President, who addressed at the function, said that it was an honour to host such event at the state House and as a result, he thanked religious who spearheaded in leading the prayer and fasting session.

Museveni, however, urged the church leaders to educate people about the wages of sin saying that many individuals always misbehave forgetting that the price for sinning is death.

‘’I am a witness to the truism that the wages of sin are death. I have seen it over the last 70 years. If you avoid evil, you get a life. As NRA, we could kill so many people, but I never liked the idea of killing to get quick results. I will write more about this one day,’’ he said.

‘’As you preach the word of God, it is important for people to know that the wages of sin is death and the wages of righteousness is blessings. Recently, when I saw some people misbehave in the NRM primaries, I wondered if they knew that God sees them. ‘’

The President also advised people to stop acting like Pontius Pilate who decided to offer Jesus for crucifixion yet he knew he was innocent.

He said that they should always correct where they notice a mistake irrespective of the numbers siding with them.

‘’But we should also avoid Pontius Pilate-ism. He played to the gallery, offering Jesus to be crucified even when he knew he was innocent. If I know something is wrong, I will oppose it irrespective of the numbers in its favour. ‘’

Meanwhile, he applauded the education minister, Janet Museveni for her prayerful role. He said that her prayers are beginning to bear fruit with recent successes in football and athletics.

‘’I thank Mama Janet for her prayerful character. As the Education and Sports Minister, she has fostered unity and collegiality in that institution, something that lacked in the past. Her prayers are also bearing fruit as the country registers successes in football, athletics, etc. Let’s continue praying for our country. I thank you.’’
