President Museveni warns corrupt officials against demanding bribes from investors as NRM marks the 34th anniversary
Jubilation and joy-filled the grounds of Ibanda Demonstration PlayGround in Kagogo Division, Ibanda District as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) celebrated their 34 anniversary.
Messages of victory of the 1986 war with emphasis to preserve the achievement of the NRM and the NRA dominated the event.
The day started with entertainment from the hosts with various entertainment groups including people living with a disability.
And by 10:00 am, the VIPs including members of Parliament had started arriving and then later the main celebrant President of the Republic of Uganda and Commander in Chief of Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni arrived in a company of former Tanzanian leader, Jakaya Kikwete.
President Museveni officiated the NRM 34th celebration under the theme: “Celebrating NRM Patriotic struggle that ushered in National Unity and Economic Transformation”.
Speaking, President Museveni reminded Ugandans what the NRA/NRM has done over the years for instance; building roads, improving the health sector, factory building, job creation for Ugandans, and improving the education sector.
Continuing, Museveni said that Africa is the origin of man, it has contributed a lot towards human history.
According to him the invention of a printing press by a German man, Gutenberg was the beginning of Africa’s problems, because Africans missed the historical mass shifting from human muscle to machines.
“As the NRM government, we have been telling people that we need to make many jumps from subsistence Agriculture to income-generating through agriculture,” Museveni said.

Museveni however, cautioned Ugandans against producing food only for domestic consumption but rather produce some for sell to improve on their household income.
He adds that the country should not only depend on the agricultural sector but also the other service sector and the ICT which is the new sector.
Further, Museveni said that two million Ugandans are now employed in non-agricultural activities which is a good step towards the Socio-economic transformation of the nation.
Away from agriculture, Museveni also warned public servants who demand bribes especially from investors who wish to venture into business in Uganda to create more jobs saying they will be prosecuted in courts of law.

While the former Tanzanian President, His Excellence Dr Jakaya Kikwete lauded Museveni for inviting him to celebrate with him the 34th NRM anniversary victory that transformed Uganda tremendously.
Kikwete said his first encounter with President Museveni was at the University of Dar es Salaam. That was after hearing good comments about him and his militant nature.
He said President Museveni is a mentor, not only to him but also to other African leaders with a passion for African revolution.
The crowd was treated to a Police band which climaxed by awarding of different medals. Among the 95 persons who received medals included Hannington Agaba, a community conservation ranger in Similiki National Park.
“Am exceedingly honoured and humbled that I have been called in to receive this medal,” Agaba said.

Rev Canon Gideon Byamugisha was also recognised for his fight against HIV/AIDs.
“I treasure this very very much because I have had so many awards and prizes including one from the Parliament of Uganda but I have never had one from His Excellency. So, am so so grateful,” Byamugisha said.
