Najjera Woman arrested detained for mistreating housemaid
The victim is identified as Agnes Nakintu.

Najjera woman Sheila Masiko alias Fiona 30, was arrested and detained by the territorial police at Kira Division on charges of aggravated trafficking.

The territorial Police at Kira Division have arrested and detained a Najjera woman identified as Sheila Masiko alias Fiona 30, on allegations of aggravated trafficking.

According to the police report the victim is identified as Agnes Nakintu, a 14-year-old girl working as a housemaid at Masika’s home in Buwate Najjera Kira Municipality Wakiso District.

The police mentioned that allegations said that in February, Masiko linked up with his friend only identified as Ann to help her acquire the services of a maid and that way they got access to Nakintu.

“It is alleged that in the month of February Masiko contacted her friend only identified as Ann who resides in Kiboga town to get her a maid. This prompted ANN to also contact the victim’s mother identified as Nakanzi Mary to allow her to send the victim to Kampala to work as a maid at her friend’s house,” the Police report reads in part.

It adds that the suspect proceeded and sent transport money to the victim’s phone number and the following day she arrived in Kampala to commence her housemaid job.

However, since April this year, the victim has allegedly been going through a series of torture incidents like beatings, being burnt with a flat iron, and hot water and has not been paid her salary.

Upon receiving this information, the Police visited the home yesterday 17th August and arrested Masiko, currently detained at Kira Division Police station.

“The child has since been examined and established that she was tortured. Wounds are visible on her body. We are working with partners to ensure that she is well looked after and treated as investigations go on,” the police added further.

It, however, called on the general public more so parents with underage girls to desist from forcing them into hard labour jobs including that of a househelp because they usually come with a number of challenges.

“The Police would like to also appeal to members of the public especially parents to desist from sending their children into hard labour. Efforts are also underway to get in touch with the parents. More details will be available as soon as possible.”
