NRM party presidential flag bearer, Yoweri Museveni said that Ugandans should be focused on someone’s ideas rather than the age.
Following recent criticism from a section of Ugandans about his age, the NRM party presidential flag bearer, Yoweri Museveni has lashed out at critics insisting that the talk of age is nonsense.
The NRM boss made the remarks on Thursday while holding his scientific campaigns in West Nile sub-region at Muni university grounds. He said that Ugandans should be focused on someone’s ideas rather than the age.
Museveni also gave an example of the Christians who are strong belivers in old scriptures. He said that after 4000 years now they are still staunch followers to the law of Moses.
“This is not about biology where you talk about young and old. We are talking about ideas where you are either right or wrong,”us even said.
“For instance, I am a Christian. The Christian idea is very old. Are we going to abandon the Christian idea because it is very many years old? Are we going to abandon the law of Moses which is 4000 years old.”
The President also said that people who are always first to discredit someone because of their age without giving an ear to their ideas are ignorant.
He said that he was in his 20s but he was a great follower of Mwalimu Nyerere’s ideas who was extremely older than him.
“The issue is that, is this a correct idea or a wrong one? When you hear people talking about Biology( age), you know they don’t know what they are talking about,” Museveni added.
“Please, stop talking nonsense if you want to solve your problems. I was in my 20s and Mwalimu Nyerere was in his 50s but I was his follower. This was because I was following his ideas like the one of East African Federation and the idea of liberating Southern Africa. Ideas are ideas whether they are supported by the young or the old.”
Meanwhile, Museveni made the remarks while holding his scientific campaigns in West Nile. Under the theme “Securing your future” Museveni explained that protecting your future starts with staying safe from the COVID 19.
He said that the NRM party has decided not to conduct mass rallies nor hold processions in these campaigns because it would put the public at risk in light of the raging Covid-19 pandemic.
“To our supporters in Arua who turned up to welcome me, I am sorry for not getting out to greet you, but I insist we should keep away from gathering for the safety of each one of us. Stay Safe first, we shall not be able to #SecureYourFuture when you are dead,” Museveni said.
“Meanwhile, I take this opportunity to call upon our supporters to stay home, stay safe, the NRM message will reach you. I would like to disabuse you of your intention to want to show our might and numbers by lining on streets. There is no need for excitement, let us keep calm at home and sow the NRM message.”
