Police through Luke Owoyesigyire the Assistant Police Spokesperson has clarified on attacks aimed at a journalist during the late Pastor Yiga’s burial.

Police Sunday released a statement clarifying on assault scenes aimed at a journalist during the late Pastor Yiga’s burial.

Pastor Yiga Augustine of the Christian Revival Church in Kawaala was buried on November 01 however, videos and images of violent scenes witnessed on the day of his burial made rounds on social media including beating up a journalist.

The journalist who was later identified as Francis Isano attached to NBS television was then rushed to hospital by a group of people to seek medication.

Many eyewitnesses alleged that he was assaulted by the police when they tried to disperse a crowd that was attracted to the opposition politicians.

However, in a recent release, Luke Owoyesigyire the Assistant Police Spokesperson has rubbished the allegations that the police is attached to torturing the journalist.

Owoyesigyire said that Francis Isano was attacked by youth that had taken advantage of a big crowd at the burial to rob items from unsuspecting mourners.

The assistant police spokesperson said that the group was commonly known as “Bigali” and they went on rampage robbing and assaulting members of the public.

He, however, noted that an operation was conducted in the areas where this specific group operates and many of them have since been arrested and many suspected stolen items also recovered.

Clarification on Assault allegations.

Our attention has been drawn to a tweet alleging that police attacked and assaulted a journalist, who was doing his lawful duties, during the burial of Pastor Augustine Yiga

Allegations in the tweet indicate that on that fateful day, a journalist of NBS TV Francis Isano was assaulted and rushed to hospital by colleagues.

We reached to his colleague, who said was with him on a fateful day.

His colleague said Isano was attacked by youth that had taken advantage of a big crowd at the burial to rob items from unsuspecting mourners.

We are yet to record Isano’s statement to collaborate what his colleague, the eyewitness, saw.

On that day he was allegedly assaulted, a group of youth commonly known as “Bigali” went on rampage robbing and assaulting members of the public.
