In a post, Bobi Wine said that security operatives travelling in a drone put all family members at gunpoint before whisking away a 15-year-old son belonging to Fred Nyanzi.
Over the weekend, a group of armed men raided the home of former parliamentary candidate Fred Nyanzi, a brother to the National Unity Platform-NUP party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.
According to Nyanzi’s family, the group was targeting him but he escaped from the home as soon as he spotted them.
On Monday morning, Bobi Wine who is Nyanzi’s brother rushed to his social media handles to report the news. In a post, Bobi Wine said that security operatives travelling in a drone put all family members at gunpoint before whisking away a 15-year-old son belonging to Nyanzi.
“This morning, the home of my elder brother, Nyanzi Fred was attacked by heavily armed security operatives travelling in a ‘drone’. They put all family members on gun point. Sensing danger, Nyanzi was able to escape, but they took his adopted son, Happy Mugisha,” Bobi Wine said.
“Happy Mugisha is 15 years old and is an adopted son to Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu. When armed men in plain clothes raided Nyanzi’s home yesterday, they took away Mugisha in the numberless ‘drone’ van that they were driving.”
Also, Bobi Wine said that Nyanzi’s wife went to Kira road police station to report the incident but she was chased away by the officers on duty with indications that she would also be arrested if she did not depart the area.
He, however, went on to scold the government for the continued harassment and brutality coupled with the abductions of innocent Ugandans. He said many are trapped daily and charged for bogus claims.
“When Nyanzi’s wife went to Kira road police station to report the incident, she was chased away by the officers on duty and threatened with arrest if she didn’t leave immediately. They simply told her, “These are state operations” and refused to record the case. The whereabouts of this boy remain unknown but he’s highly suspected to be in one of the torture chambers,” Bobi Wine added.
“This afternoon, I just left Kitalya prison to check on our comrades! They told me that on a daily basis, our people are brought in on bogus charges, after being subjected to so much torture. Most of them are randomly picked up and charged with wearing military attire and such other ridiculous charges. These criminal actions will be accounted for. We only need to each play our part.”
