Lukwago has asked his Deputy Sarah Kanyike not to take up the new KCCA job offer.

The Lord Mayor of Kampala City Erias Lukwago has asked his Deputy Sarah Kanyike not to take up the position of Director Directorate of Gender, Community Service and Production at Kampala City Authority.

On Friday, President Museveni nominated Lukwago’s Deputy Sarah Kanyike and four others to take up various positions at the authority. The list included Dorothy Kisaka for Executive Director, Grace Akullo for Director Human Resource, Daniel Okello for Director Public Health and Environment and Eng. David Luyimbazi Ssali as Deputy Executive Director.

While addressing the media at his home in Wakaliga on Saturday afternoon Lukwago said he was disappointed on the appointment of his deputy on Friday night but urged her to reject the job.

Lukwago added that Kanyike cannot take up a directorate she has to monitor as an executive secretary of the city. He says Sarah’s current position is superior and she should keep it.

Kanyike is a Makindye East councillor and was appointed as a deputy Lord Mayor in 2016.

After the amendment of the KCCA act last year, Lukwago appointed Kanyike as the head of government business and secretary of the minister in charge of gender and community-based services as well as production and marketing directorates of the authority.

The Lord Mayor has given his an ultimatum of three days to decide whether she is taking up the new position or she is going to remain as the Deputy Lord Mayor.

Lukwago says it’s an insult for the president to appoint one of his executive secretaries as a director. Lukwago also says the president has created a leadership crisis in KCCA by not appointing substantive directors.

Andrew Kitaka and his Deputy Sam Sserunkuma are holding the offices in an acting capacity. Kitaka was previously the director of engineering at the authority while Sserunkuma was the directorate of revenue collection.

Mrs Kisaka who is expected to replace Kitaka is currently the Deputy Head of the Delivery Unit at the office of the Prime Minister, charged with fast-tracking the execution of government programs.

She also serves at COVID -19 Response Fund Task Force as an administrator. She is also the Executive Director of Executive Consults. Kisaka previously served as the Commissioner Legal affairs of the NRM Electoral Commission when Dr.Ruhakana Rugunda was at the top.

Ms Grace Akullo currently serves as the Commissioner for the Human Resource at the Ministry of Public Service while Mr Luyimbazi is the director planning at Uganda National Roads Authority.
