Relegation battle tightens for Proline as Golola’s Vipers SC maintain unbeaten run

Following a tough start to 2019/ 2020 Star Times Uganda Premier League, Proline FC yet again lost by a goal to nil to fellow promoted side, Kyetume FC on Tuesday as Vipers SC maintain the unbeaten run.

Striker Robert Ssentongo scored the only goal of the game to give Kyetume a narrow win over relegation battlers Proline.

The loss now means that in the last eight league games, Proline has not recorded a single point a clear sign of tough times ahead in the season. They have only won two games this season but ended up being docked six points after failing to turn up for their fixture against SC Villa.

Meanwhile, Golola’s Vipers SC maintained their unbeaten run after a 2-1 win over in-form Jinja based BUL Football Club at the St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende.

Following a good start to their season that saw them beat defending champions KCCA FC by three goals to nil in their previous encounter, BUL FC was hoping to keep their run going but their hopes were shattered by the Kitende based boys.

The win now means that Vipers SC maintained their unbeaten run and also moved top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table with 19 points from 8 games while BUL dropped to the second position with one a point below league leaders.

In the other game of the day, defending champions, Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA) FC claimed a 3-1 win over Maroons Football Club in Luzira.

KCCA FC took an early lead in the 42nd minute through Mike Mutyaba before the hosts levelled matters in the 69th minute through Solomon Walusimbi who beat defender John Revita to fire past goalkeeper, Charles Lukwago.

KCCA bounced back late in the game with a 90th-minute well-taken penalty from Mustafa Kizza after Nigerian forward, John Odumegwu’s volley was handled by Silvester Okello for the centre referee to point to the spot-kick.

Odemegwu later in the stoppage time took KCCA’s lead beyond reach after he capitalized on a cross from Erisa Sekisambu with a diving header that went past the Maroons goalkeeper.

The win now means that KCCA FC is 7th on the log with 13 points after 7 games while Maroons are 9th on the same number of points but with an inferior goal difference.
