Godfrey Wamala found guilty of manslaughter following singer Mowzey Radio’s death

Troy real names Godfrey Wamala has been found guilty of manslaughter following Mowzey Radio’s death. He was accused of killing Uganda based musician, Moses Ssekibogo stage name Mowzey Radio.

Earlier, High Court Entebbe charged Troy with murder. However, on Monday 28, October 2019, Justice Jane Abodo of Entebbe High Court found Troy guilty of manslaughter, not murder, basing on his defence statement.

Abodo in her ruling argues that despite Mowzey Radio’s death after a bar brawl, Troy did not have malice intentions to murder the Goodlyfe crew member.

In a fully-packed courtroom, Justice Abodo ruled that Troy linked himself to the scene of the crime, after admitting that he witnessed what happened to Radio that night.

On Saturday 5. October, 2019, in a fully packed courtroom while giving his defence against the accusation, Troy revealed that while hanging out at the DeBar, together with his group, Mowzey Radio came and poured Wine on the group members’ and eventually began insulting the owner of the DeBar, a hangout in Entebbe, George Egesa.

Then Egesa responding to the attack, pushed the table and attempted to fight back at Radio, but him and another only identified as Hassan, intervened, only to calm down the situation.

“George pushed the table which had drinks and tried to attack Radio but was restrained by myself and Hassan. We told him that it was not worth to fight Mowzey Radio,” Troy informed Court.

“In the due process, Mowzey Radio started fighting everyone who came close to him, maybe he thought they were all his enemies. H kept his guard up trying to fight,” Troy added.

In his further explanation, Wamala said Radio was then held and pushed out of the De Bar by some gentlemen he did not identify. Accordingly, Egesa was also held by Hassan Muwonge

De Bar supervisor, a woman named Agnes, De Bar waitress and Pamela Musiimire, who was in the company of Radio, to intercept any more fights, between the two men.

Troy adds that he did not hit Radio, but he was trying to rescue him from the men who were beating him up, but he was overpowered by the men who pushed him onto the floor.

“I held one of the gentlemen, but I was overpowered and found myself on the ground. When I stood up, they were still fighting with Radio who was already down. I lost interest in trying to stop the fight and moved on. I got a Boda Boda and called back the OC Katabi, because I had an appointment with him,” Troy further stated.

Troy denied beating, fighting, lifting and throwing the Goodlyfe Crew Singer on the floor.

“The only thing I did that day during De Bar brawl was trying to stop the fight. I didn’t lift anyone like they said I lifted the deceased and threw him down. I don’t remember touching him.”

Manslaughter is a lesser offence compared to murder, attracting a maximum punishment of life imprisonment.

Then after the ruling, Justice Abodo adjourned the case hearing to October 31, 2019, when Wamala will be sentenced.

On 27, Sept 2019, court hearing, the prosecution alleged that on January 22, 2018, Troy and Radio were seen together drinking alcohol at the DeBar, before the fight erupted between the late Mowzey and the suspected murderers.

The prosecution further alleged that Troy grabbed Radio, beat him seriously using a wine bottle and then threw him down, from where he sustained serious injuries on the head.

And soon after the incident, Troy took off and hid in Kyengera and that’s where the police arrested him from, on February 4. 2018, after the Singer died at Case Hospital, where he was admitted.
