On Tuesday, Uganda Airlines welcomed the arrival of another Airbus A330-800neo, marking the country’s carrier’s order from aircraft manufacturer Airbus.

This is second Airbus to arrive in the country following the earlier delivery in December 2020. A330neo is the latest version of the most popular international airliner.

The new acquisition brings the national carrier’s fleet to six aircraft in addition to the four 72- seater Bombadier CRJ9OOs that arrived last year and have since been fully operational for shorter regional routes.

According to Gen Katumba Wamala, the Minister of Works and Transport, the new airline is under full ownership of the government of Uganda.

Katumba who was first to refute claims of the country owning only about 0.2% of the shares stressed that the A330neo is owned by the nation with two ministries including that of Finance and Transport having 50% of the shares.

Uganda Airlines, whose new A330neo is being received today, is 100% owned by the Government of Uganda, with Ministry of Works and Transport and Ministry of Finance as the two shareholders, each ministry holding 50% shares,” Gen. Katumba said during the welcoming ceremony held at the Entebbe International Airport.

Previously, Ugandan planes have been making trips to nearby African countries including Kenya, Tanzania, Djibouti among others, however, minister Katumba disclosed that the new acquisition will help boost the expansion of flights to even countries outside Africa.

Meanwhile, Uganda Airlines said that the new acquisition on top of boosting passenger comfort, it also has a unique Airspace Cabin with both premium and economy seats.

“The A330neo addition to Uganda Airlines fleet offers #ANewWorld of greater connectivity for the travellers, superior comfort and the best passenger experience with its unique Airspace Cabin with 20 full-flat business – class beds, 28 premium – economy seats and 210 economy – class seats, totalling 258 seats; the quietest cabin in its category, high definition video, 3D capabilities touch screen and WiFi connectivity,” the Airlines noted.
