Lukwago questioned why the government is keeping NUP’s presidential aspirant Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine under house arrest if they won the election correctly.

The Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago has aimed a dig at the ruling National Resistance Movement party president, Yoweri Museveni citing that his post-election actions are enough to justify that he rigged the 2021 elections.

Lukwago made the remarks while appearing on NBS TV’s Morning Breeze show on Monday. He questioned why the government is keeping NUP’s presidential aspirant Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine under house arrest if they won the election correctly.

“Why don’t you allow Kyagulanyi to go back to his normal business if you didn’t rig? Does the new reality exclude Kyagulanyi, Nubian LiEddy Mutwe, and the rest?,” Lukwago questioned.

He said that the NUP boss has already justified that despite the pool of evidence that he has at his disposal to prove that the election was rigged, he is determined to move on and apply non-violent means to seek justice but the ruling party is still holding him in detention.

Lukwago reminded Museveni of the 1980 elections when he cited forms of vote-rigging and instead of waiting for the five years’ term to end, he decided to run to the bush.

“I can see they are anxious to move on. That is what they want it to happen. This is dangerous for our country. Museveni said he was rigged out in 1980, why didn’t he wait for five years instead of going to the Bush? All is not well. Sustainable peace is anchored on peace and justice. This is pretense,” Lukwago said.

“The people of Kiruhura (Museveni) voted for him because he is the son of the soil. People vote the way they do because of so many factors, and tribe is one of them.”

Also, he stressed that unlike the presidential seat, elections for other position have proved that a big section of Ugandans was determined and elected for a new regime but government and the Electoral Commission connived to make it easy for President Museveni.

“The NRM losers have always lost, but the system has always helped them. This time it was a scientific election, and people were vigilant. It was extremely difficult for them to rig. The only person that was helped was Museveni,” he added.

“Mr Byabakama is used as a loudspeaker to announce results he has not tallied, they are doctored. The other day, I saw Museveni with Bebe Cool, trying to speak (Ruyaaye). I saw it and said, “What has become of my country? An 80-year-old trying to speak like a youth instead of mentoring the youth?”
