Is Sadio Mane the next Balon D’or Winner?
Securing a trophy for his home country will make Sadio mane appearance at this year’s Balon D’or three-man shortlist inevitable.
After guiding his Senegal side to the final of the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations tournament, this might be Sadio Mane’s only chance of grabbing a trophy to add to his already won Champions League golden medal in a bid to boost his CV for this year’s Balon d’Or.
Away from guiding his Liverpool side to a second finish in the 2018/ 2019 premiership season, Mane was also the league’s top scorer on 22 goals together with his club teammate, Mohammed Salah and Arsenal’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.
Last season alone, Mane registered 26 goals and 5 assists in 50 games for Liverpool, in addition to his 3 goals and a single assist in four AFCON appearances, currently, his stats are literally incomparable to many players in the world.
Even after failing to convert two penalty spot-kicks for his country in this year’s AFCON tournament, he is still only one goal away equaling the tournament’s top scorer, Odion ighalo (Nigeria) who is on 4 goals.
Senegal will go head to head with Algeria in the final of the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations tournament on Friday 19th July.
Tunisia’s Dylan Bronn scored an unlucky own goal after he deflected a shot which went into his own nett in the first period of extra time to grant Sadio Mane’s Senegal a place in the finals for the first time in 17 years
Appropriately, Tunisia will go head to head with Nigeria in a battle for the third and fourth place on Wednesday 17th July.
