The bus was heading to Mbale in Eastern Uganda when the accident happened at about 6:00 am. Three people were massively injured with many others also thought to have sustained minor injuries.

According to Faridah Nampiima the spokesperson of the Police’s Traffic Directorate, the bus was overspeeding when the driver lost control.

“The bus was travelling from Mbale to Kampala, over speeding and driving recklessly which caused it to overturn. The bus swerved off the road and overturned, injuring three people,” Nampiima said.

She, however, raised that no other vehicle was involved in the accident and that a van belonging to YY Coaches had taken the injured, who were identified by press time, to various medical facilities for treatment.

“Traffic was paralysed on Jinja Road since it took time to remove it because it is a big car. This caused a traffic jam on Jinja Road,” Nampiima added.
