Bobi Wine commended Winnie Kizza for the courage after she quit running for Kasese Woman MP in the coming 2021 elections.
Kyadondo East legislator, Kyagulanyi Ssentamu commonly known as Bobi Wine has praised fellow legislator Winnie Kizza for being an exemplary leader after she quit running for MP in the coming 2021 elections.
On Tuesday, Winnie Kizza who is now serving as the Kasese Woman of Parliament announced that she will quit elective politics when her current term of office expires.
Kizza who has served in parliament for three consecutive five-year terms confirmed that the ongoing term will be her last despite still being a very popular figure in her constituency.
“I won’t seek re-election for the Kasese District Woman Representative seat in the next general election. I thank you for your cooperation and support when situations demanded. Thank you. Be blessed,” Part of her confirmation statement read.
Kizza also, said that she has served to her full expectations and now she is ready to back another aspirant to come in and also serve.
Following the news, many prominent figures including fellow legislators took to social media to send their messages of love and support to Winnie.
Notable figured such as the People Power initiator, Kyagulanyi Ssentamu posted a message on his twitter handle praising Winnie Kizza for being an exemplary leader.
Kyagulanyi also commended Winnie for taking a very bold and courageous decision that many only talk about.
“Winnie announced that she will not be running for MP in the coming election, despite being very popular in her constituency.
I celebrate you; the nation celebrates you. History will remember you for taking such a bold and courageous decision. Thanks for inspiring all of us,” Bobi Wine’s statement read.
Others who spoke about her decision include the 2016 Presidential aspirant, Prof. V Baryamureeba. He said Winnie’s resignation is not only a loss to Kasese district but the opposition as a whole.
“Opposition shouldn’t be losing able women like Hon. Winnie Kizza. This is a big lost to Kasese District & opposition. For Winnie, when a window closes a door opens. You have made a name & use it to serve internationally. Let us now watch Nabilah & see if she is next to exit FDC,” Prof. Baryamureeba’s statement read.
Who is Winnie Kizza?
Winnie Kiiza is the incumbent Member of Parliament representing the Kasese District Women in the 10th Ugandan Parliament. She has served in the position for three consecutive five-year terms.
Kizza, 47 is a Ugandan female teacher and politician, who served as the Leader of Opposition in the Ugandan Parliament, from May 2016 until August 2018. She was replaced as Leader of Opposition by Betty Aol Ochan.
